Jancis Robinson MW Celebrates 20 Years of JancisRobinson.com with California Wine

Robinson shares her lifelong appreciation of California wine in a special episode of “Behind the Wines” webinar series

San Francisco (October 2020) – On Oct. 13, the California Wine Institute Export Program welcomes Jancis Robinson MW as a guest for a very special episode of the “Behind the Wines” webinar series celebrating the twentieth anniversary of JancisRobinson.com. Jancis and webinar host Elaine Chukan Brown, who serves as the American Specialist for JancisRobinson.com, will commemorate this milestone by taking a look at how the wine world has evolved over the past two decades, and California’s role in that development.

JancisRobinson.com has been a leader in online coverage of wine for the past 20 years, sharing educational and informative profiles, independent wine reviews and news stories about producers, regions and wines from around the world, engaging trade and consumers alike.

Over the course of her wine career, Jancis has witnessed the evolution of California wine from fledging status to one of the leading wine regions in the world. First visiting the Golden State in the late 1960s, Jancis later became officer of the Zinfandel Club in London, where she and other wine legends would taste California wines just as they were becoming available in the UK market. Such is her regard for this wine region that she donated her collection of papers, including four decades of wine writing, to the University of California at Davis Library in 2017.

Jancis most recently visited California in February of this year, delivering the keynote address for the Wine Institute’s inaugural Export 2020 event alongside Elaine. She also used that time to revisit old friends and learn about new developments and new trends in California wine.

In addition to writing daily for JancisRobinson.com and weekly for the Financial Times, Jancis is founder-editor of The Oxford Companion to Wine, co-author with Hugh Johnson of The World Atlas of Wine and co-author of Wine Grapes. In 1984, she was the first person from outside the wine trade to become a Master of Wine and has since received a multitude of awards and recognition from around the world, including five James Beard awards, the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and France’s Officier du Mérite Agricole. For a full listing of awards, publications and other notable achievements, see her bio at JancisRobinson.com.

The “Behind the Wines” episode, titled “Jancis Robinson on California, Then and Now,” will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Register here: https://bit.ly/register-for-behind-the-wines
