Sonoma, CA, September 23, 2020 – Sangiacomo Family Wines portfolio showcases the fruit from estate vineyards they have been harvesting for over 50 years. The fall release highlights their Roberts Road Vineyard, located within one of California’s youngest American Viticultural Areas, the Petaluma Gap, and includes their 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Chardonnay. A family of winegrowers now handcrafting wines that express their own vision, the Sangiacomo Family was one of the first to pioneer into the Petaluma Gap and plant vineyards in the now famed appellation. The thick fog that frequently hangs over Roberts Road slows the ripening of the fruit, making for wines with great natural acidity and suppleness. This vintage from Roberts Road Vineyard reflects the greatness of 2018; a slow and steady growing season, resulting in deep complexity and extraordinarily balanced flavors.

“Roberts Road is a special vineyard for our family. A farmer’s dream with its rocky, extremely well drained soils,” says Steve Sangiacomo, a member of the third generation, who is now leading the family business with his siblings, Mike Sangiacomo, Mia Pucci and brother-in-law, Mike Pucci. “In its 21st year, tucked in the heart of the Petaluma Gap, we marvel at the outstanding wines it continues to produce.”

  • 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir, $70, 240 cases produced

Winemaker Tasting Notes: This wine displays concentrated aromatics that burst from the glass, offering Bing cherry coulis, raspberry, and violets centered on a forest floor base note. The palate is broad and deep, with soft tannins creating elegant length and texture. Flavors are bright and lively of berry compote, freshly smashed cherries, juicy strawberry and lingering hints of five-spice and orange peel.

  • 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Chardonnay,  $65, 145 cases produced

Winemaker Tasting Notes: With aromatics of lemon tart, crème brulee, Crenshaw melon, and petrichor, this wine introduces a rich and weighty palate with flavors of fragrant, juicy stone fruits, lemon meringue and subtle tropical notes of lychee and kiwi. The creamy texture is mouth-coating and settles into a lingering finish.

An exceptional harvest, 2018 delivered ripeness and balance; one of the best years in memory. Little frost during the spring fruit set and no heat spikes during the growing season, helped the grapes reach full maturity. Mild, even temperatures throughout the growing months yielded grapes with intense flavors and ideally balanced acidity. Harvest was steady, marred only by late season rains which were thankfully mitigated by warm, dry winds and low humidity. The fruit was harvested in the early morning hours during the coolest part of the day to preserve flavor and balance.

Located at the base of Sonoma Mountain, in the northern part of the famed Petaluma Gap appellation, Roberts Road Vineyard has developed some of the most prestigious grapes that the Sangiacomo family cultivates. Needing no soil amendment when acquired, the land is very well-drained with silty gravel. Highly unusual in that it has two watersheds, the southern end of Roberts Road Vineyard drains to the San Pablo Bay while the northern section drains to the Russian River. With Copeland Creek having meandered through the area for over a century, the cobblestone soil is naturally perfect for wine grapes.

With fog covering the vineyard until mid-day, the growing season is long and gradual; testing the patience and strengthening the tenacity of grape growers. Wines made from these grapes are Burgundian in style, rich and delicate with a velvety mouthfeel.

With over 50 years of grapegrowing experience, the Sangiacomo Family brings unparalleled knowledge and expertise to each and every bottle of wine. In addition to handcrafting artisanal wines with veteran winemaker, James MacPhail, the Sangiacomo Family continues to grow and sell world-class grapes to over 60 premium wineries from 1,600 acres of beloved estate vineyards in Carneros, Petaluma Gap, Napa Valley, and Sonoma Coast. Certified sustainable and the source of grapes for more than thirty wineries, Roberts Road Vineyard is responsible for producing over twenty vineyard designates, with 60+ wines achieving 90+ ratings over the years. Each new vintage of wines made by the Sangiacomo Family is a compliment to their heritage; shining a light on Sonoma history, terroir and meticulously harvested fruit.

The majority of Sangiacomo wines are sold direct-to-consumer and to select key restaurant accounts and premium independent wine shops. Beyond California, the wines are available with distributor partnerships in FL, GA, NC, NY, OK, and TX. The winery produces a small amount of large format bottles for charity auctions only.
