Wine Spectator Event Will Be Held October 21-23, 2021 in New York City
New York City (July 16, 2020)— In the interest of public health and safety, the New York Wine Experience, hosted by Wine Spectator, will be postponed until October 21-23, 2021. The largest and most well attended wine event for wine lovers, the three-day celebration showcases the world’s best wines and winemakers with seminars, tastings and a black-tie awards dinner.
“While this decision is a difficult one—one of the most difficult I’ve ever had to make—it is the best one to ensure the health and safety of everyone,” said Marvin R. Shanken, Editor and Publisher, Wine Spectator, whose innovations fueled the event’s success and popularity. “I look forward to a raising a glass with you in October 2021 to celebrate our special 40th anniversary.”
Since 1981, Wine Spectator’s annual Wine Experience has brought together leading vintners, hundreds of wineries and thousands of wine lovers. The evening Grand Tastings feature more than 250 of the world’s top wineries. Daytime seminars present rare wines presented by the vintners who made them. Among the annual seminars are a tasting of the Top 10 Wines of the Year and a Chefs’ Challenge food and wine competition featuring such top chefs as Emeril Lagasse and José Andrés. The concluding black-tie gala honors restaurants that have earned Wine Spectator’s Grand Award and features legendary entertainers such as James Brown, John Legend and many more.
Proceeds from the New York Wine Experience support the Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation, which provides grants and scholarships to a wide variety of wine-related and culinary programs. To date, more than $20 million has been raised, made possible by the generosity of vintners and wine lovers around the world who attend the event each year.
The Foundation’s latest contribution was in April, with a $250,000 grant to World Central Kitchen, led by Andrés. The donation helped support the charity’s mission of feeding those in need, a cause all the more urgent amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
