June 23, 2020, St. Helena, Calif.—Markham Napa Valley Vineyards has released a new wine, “The Altruist,” a Bordeaux-style red blend dedicated to honoring our nation’s veterans, first responders and community heroes who courageously defend and preserve our freedoms and security 365 days a year.
The release of “The Altruist” launches with Markham’s charitable donation to, and partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation, whose mission is to serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.
“The Altruist” is a Merlot-based blend of Napa Valley grapes predominantly from Markham’s estate vineyards from the 2017 vintage and releases in July nationally for $29.99 retail.
Crafted by Markham Winemaker Kimberley Nicholls, “The Altruist” label features the Markham Cannoneer. As a US Navy veteran, founder Bruce Markham depicted a cannoneer from a treasured bronze sculpture on his first Markham Vineyards label in 1978 and is a symbol that stands for the people, land and values that make up Markham’s past and present. “The Altruist” new package is part of a full overhaul of the winery’s packaging including lightweight glass bottles as part of the winery’s overall sustainability efforts.
Beyond making great wine, Markham Vineyards gives back to the community through many charitable organizations is certified sustainable through Fish Friendly Farming and has been dual certified under both Napa Green programs through the Napa Valley Vintners. Only 10 percent of Napa Valley wineries have achieved dual certification.
