Santa Barbara County’s Melville Vineyards & Winery Re-Opens to the Public

Melville Tasting RoomSanta Barbara, CA – Melville Vineyards & Winery (est. 1989), located in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara County, has re-opened to the public. Melville will be following all CDC guidelines, including requiring employees to wear gloves and masks at all times. All employees have been trained in the areas of physical distancing and sanitation practices. Employees will maintain at least six feet of separation between other employees and guests. The winery will be performing the thorough and regular cleaning of high traffic areas, including the frequent sanitizing of commonly used surfaces, including doors, door handles, light switches, credit card terminals, serving trays, water pitcher handles, phones, toilets and hand washing facilities. Employees will be required to sanitize their gloves before and after touching any wine glass or the winery’s one-time use wine tasting menus, as well as other highly trafficked surfaces. 

In addition to observing all current CDC guidelines, Melville will also be ensuring employee and guest safety in the following ways; after glasses are washed, employees will be sanitizing their gloves before putting glasses away; Glasses will be brought to guests on trays for outdoor tasting only, with all guests maintaining at least six feet distance between other guests and other parties. Food service will be available per state-issued re-opening guidelines. Visitors will only be allowed indoors to access the bathroom facilities, the use of which will be limited to one person at a time. The winery floor will be clearly marked to highlight social distancing requirements.

 Throughout the winery grounds, sanitation areas will be staged to include sanitizing spray and disposable paper towels. All guests will be screened for Covid-19 symptoms and their temperature will be taken. They will also be asked to answer screening questions provided by the CDC. All employees will follow the same screening guidelines daily. 

Sanitation practices, social distancing initiatives and employee training have been extended to Melville’s downtown Santa Barbara location, as well, which is located near the popular Santa Barbara waterfront, where visitors may stroll the beachfront after visiting, while maintaining and following all social distancing guidelines.

Reservations will be taken in advance on the winery’s website, or by calling, to ensure that traffic is controlled so that social distancing and sanitation requirements can be maintained to the highest degree. All guidelines will be posted for visitors upon arrival at the edge of the parking lot, where hand sanitizer will also be provided.
