Acclaimed Carneros Estate Opens Outdoor Collection for Art Tours for the First Time As Shelter-in-Place Orders Are Gradually Lifted

Donum EstateSONOMA, California (May 27, 2020) – The Donum Estate, the award-winning, estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producer and sculptural art curator located in the acclaimed wine region of Carneros, has received permission from the County of Sonoma to allow guests to tour the more than 40 museum-quality sculptures by world-renowned artists installed on the estate’s 200 picturesque acres north of San Pablo Bay.  This marks the first time that the public, with a reservation, will be able to explore the estate’s extraordinary collection as a standalone experience.

“We are thrilled to reopen and welcome guests back to our property,” said Angelica de Vere Mabray, chief executive officer of Donum. “Everyone is so eager to get outside and experience something new and inspiring, and our one-of-a-kind art collection fits the bill perfectly. We are prepared and excited to open our gates and share the Donum collection in this beautiful, safe, outdoor setting.”

The Open-Air Sculpture Walks will be guided by one of Donum’s experienced hosts for groups of six or less and can be combined with other groups. The estate will be open for the walks by appointment only Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $50/person. Donum’s members are allotted one complimentary visit for up to four people. No wine is to be consumed onsite, but Donum’s highly acclaimed portfolio will be available for purchase to take home.

Recently acknowledged in Wine Spectator as one of Sonoma’s top 50 producers with impressive, consistent 90+ scores, Donum continues to be a sought-after single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producer sourcing exclusively from Estate vineyards in Carneros, Anderson Valley and Russian River Valley.  The talent behind Donum’s masterfully crafted wines is Winemaker Dan Fishman, who is celebrating 13 years as part of the winemaking team.  Fishman, who joined Donum as a winemaking intern, was promoted to oversee the winemaking responsibilities in 2012 after five successful vintages working under the previous winemaker.  Appreciating each vineyard’s unique character, Fishman’s winemaking style allows for each lot to reveal itself and the treatment it demands, always welcoming the opportunity to experiment using both historically known and cutting-edge winemaking techniques.

About The Donum Estate

Founded in 2001, the Donum Estate in the acclaimed wine region of Canernos brings to life a delicate balance between wine, land and art that has made it an international destination for enthusiasts and connoisseurs everywhere.

Celebrating its 20th vintage this year, the Donum Estate creates single vineyard, single appellation Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from small lots that distinctly express the characteristics of each terroir. Each bottling represents a unique voice.

The Donum Estate spans over 200 acres, with nearly 150 planted. Its winemaking practices create environments in which the vines can thrive and produce the highest-quality fruit as possible, with as little intervention as possible. Sustainability is at the forefront of the Donum Estate vision—let the land lead. Donum, in fact, is Latin for Gift of the land.

More than 40 large-scale, open-air sculptures live harmoniously among the Donum Estate landscape and vineyards. Dotted throughout, each piece plays with scale, nature, and imagination. Many pieces were curated in collaboration with Donum’s owners and the artist, uniquely created to fit with the land. The collection brings together a global community of artists, including works from Ai Weiwei, Keith Haring, Subodh Gupta, Doug Aitken, and many more, with art lovers who themselves represent the world.

It’s the commitment to this partnership—between wine, land and art—that has created a truly interactive experience at the Donum Estate. To visit, and to enjoy its wine, is to feel the living, breathing balance that makes it come alive.

Reservations for private tastings and tours of the property can be made by visiting www.thedonumestate.com or calling 707-732-2200.
