The renowned producer of Edna Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay celebrates its commitment to sustainable practices

March 9, 2020 (San Luis Obispo, Calif.)  Tolosa winery, acclaimed producer of estate and single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from the Edna Valley, is pleased to host a special Earth Day event in honor of the winery’s guiding principles of integrity, sustainability, and meticulous craftsmanship

As part of the winery’s commitment to green initiatives, Tolosa’s vineyard, Edna Ranch, is sustainably farmed and Sustainability in Practice (SIP) Certified — a comprehensive farming practice that focuses on being environmentally friendly, socially equitable, and economically viable. These practices include the planting of cover crops between vines to add nitrates back into the soil and aid in pest management, using reclaimed water for drip irrigation, and recycling and composting all winery waste, among other sustainable methods that minimize negative environmental impacts. In 2009, Tolosa enhanced its conservation efforts with the installation of a SunPower high efficiency 539-kilowatt ground mounted sun tracking system, which produces enough solar power to offset 90 to 95% of the winery’s electricity demand. “Tolosa strives for harmony in all aspects of our business, which starts with the commitment we made long ago to incorporate sustainable practices in our vineyard,” says General Manager, June McIvor. “We are proud to be a SIP Certified estate vineyard and take great honor in our high caliber winemaking traditions to achieve the purest translation of place to taste in our wines.”

In honor of Earth Day 2020, Tolosa will host, “A Toast to Mother Earth” on Sunday, April 19, 2020, from 11am – 2pm. Paying tribute to the ongoing efforts the winery has made to take care of the environment, the event will also celebrate the release of their 1772 Rosé 2019. Special offerings of wine will be available by the glass or bottle, along with live music, food available for purchase, outdoor seating, and a collection of like-minded businesses displaying a variety of sustainable goods, also available for purchase. In addition to the event, Tolosa will organize a company beach clean up on Saturday, April 18. Adds McIvor, “Since every day is Earth Day at Tolosa, we couldn’t think of a better way to show our support for cultivating a more sustainable environment than welcoming guests to join us in honoring our precious Mother Earth.”
