Paso Robles, Calif. February 20, 2020 – Boutique Winery Brecon Estate is excited to announce the appointment of Ryan Pease to Winemaker. Pease’s appointment was announced by Founding Winemaker, Damian Grindley. Conceived in 2012, Brecon Estate has rapidly become one of the most respected wineries in Paso Robles Iconic Westside. Gaining numerous accolades including the prestigious purely domestic wine report “Winery of the Year” award within two years of opening.
“We are thrilled to have Ryan join us as a Winemaker,” explained Grindley. “His wine enthusiasm is infectious, depth of varietal knowledge and grower relationships are second to none. His wine style is very akin to Brecon’s. Indeed they perfectly complement each other. I truly believe our customers and wine members will enjoy the benefits of Ryan’s expertise and efforts for years to come. I fully expect that he will help lead Brecon to even greater recognition in the future.”
Ryan began working in the wine industry while attending Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in a part time tasting room position at Linne Calado. It was during his first months that he recognized the wine industry was something that truly piqued his interest and passion. After finishing his degree he signed on for an additional year to acquire extra classes in Wine and Viticulture. His first harvest was working alongside Matt Trevisan in 2007 as a vineyard and cellar hand, then moved on to work with Epoch Estate for the next two harvests. In 2010, he returned to Linne Calado as assistant winemaker for the 2010 and 2011 harvests.
Ryan was also inspired to create his own label highlighting Rhone Varietals from the Westside of Paso Robles. “Paix Sur Terre ” has been a project from the heart for Ryan. While sourcing premium fruit from adjoining rows in iconic Rhone vineyards for his own label he and Damian began their friendship, realizing they had a common love for mineral driven hilltop Rhone grapes. While Damian will very much continue to direct Brecon’s wine style he realized he needed help at Brecon to continue the boutique wine production at the level his devoted patrons and club members had grown to expect. This partnership has grown organically from the vineyard through the tasting bench and to the cellar.
Ryan is a resident of Templeton with his wife and two girls, Morgan 2 and Taylor 1. Since he is one of the lucky ones where work is his hobby wine really encompasses much of his time. To compliment his love of wine he also enjoys cooking classic French cuisine to enjoy with his family and friends.
