Petaluma, Calif.—Scott Laboratories, the premier supplier of goods to the wine industry, is excited to announce the growth of its Enology department with new appointment to the role of Fermentation Outside Technical Expert. “The Enology department is the heart of what we do here,” comments Zack Scott, CEO of Scott Laboratories.
Darren joined Scott Labs in December 2019, rounding out an extensive bench of enology technical experts within the department. Having worked in a variety of roles within the industry, Darren will now be focused on fermentation and process application support for the Pacific Northwest, as well as special focus on sparkling wine and the enzyme portfolio. He will also be active in the non-wine sector for Scott Labs, which continues to grow. Raised in California wine country, Darren earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from UC Santa Barbara, and performed antibody fermentations at Scripps Immunology before becoming a wine chemist at Trinchero Family Estates. He moved to manage the Central Coast offices of Vinquiry, and then became Lab Director of Enology & Quality at Terravant Wine Company, winemaking for custom crush and private label clients. After falling in love with the Columbia River Gorge, Darren moved to the pacific northwest and took a role with Laffort USA, where he spent seven years as their Technical Enologist. As an active figure in the wine community, Darren has taught winemaking courses for VESTA and Allan Hancock.
