First Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Phelps expands the Grounded Wine Co. portfolio
NAPA, Calif. (December 4, 2019) — Winemaker Josh Phelps is pleased to introduce Landform Pinot Noir, the newest wine from Grounded Wine Co., an All-American grass roots project grounded in heritage, soil and simplicity – producing terroir-driven wines that are intriguing, balanced and accessible.
Based in Napa and raised in a winemaking family, Phelps crafts wines using select sustainably and organically-grown fruit from trusted farmers in Washington, Oregon and California. Landform is his first Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, and the fifth wine in the Grounded portfolio.
A “landform” is a natural and exceptional feature of the solid surface of the Earth. Phelps aged his 2018 Landform Pinot Noir entirely in stainless steel, to allow for the purest expression of Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, evoking a true sense of place. Landform Pinot Noir leads with compelling aromas of freshly-crushed cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. On the palate, the wine is refreshing, with a structure that is surprisingly full-bodied and seamless from start to finish. In keeping with Phelps’ commitment to accessibility, 2018 Landform Pinot Noir retails for $25 per bottle.
“I’ve spent the last five years traveling around the Willamette Valley, tasting every Pinot Noir I could get my hands on, and forming my own vision of what Willamette Valley Pinot Noir could taste like,” said Phelps. “As with all of the Grounded wines, I’m excited to share Landform with a new generation of wine drinkers.”
Landform Pinot Noir can be found in shops and restaurants across the country and online at GroundedWineCo.com.

About Josh Phelps
Josh’s roots run deep in Napa, raised in a winemaking family, he was exposed to the industry from a young age, starting his very first endeavor in the wine world, “Napa Valet,” at age 15. He continued to build his knowledge of the business through college, selling wine, working harvest and creating wine for friends with his father, Chris Phelps, who makes wine for Inglenook and Ad Vivum. As a Napa local, his philosophies on winemaking and business are inspired by the luminaries of the wine world he calls his mentors and friends like Joel Gott, Kimberly Jones, the late Leslie Rudd, and of course, his own father.
With Grounded Wine Co., Josh hopes to build on this legacy and make his own splash in the wine world while exposing wine drinkers of his own generation to his hometown in wine country. Working with trusted farmers and childhood friends, his company reflects his deep understanding of wine, one that can only be developed growing up around the vines. He has been named to Forbes’s 30 under 30 list, along with Zagat’s 30 under 30 and Wine Enthusiast’s 40 under 40 – though one of his proudest accomplishments is still the Eagle Scout badge he earned at the age of 18.
