Taste the Estate and Legacy Tastings Showcase the Family’s World-class Wines and Culinary Heritage

(Napa, Calif.)— August 19, 2019— As the Trefethen family enters its sixth decade in the wine business, the winery will launch new culinary experiences this October: Taste the Estate and Legacy Tastings, which highlight their estate grown wines, bountiful fruit and vegetable gardens, and culinary expertise.

Trefethen’s Culinary History

Janet Trefethen, and her mother-in-law, Katie, began hosting the Napa Valley Cooking Class at Trefethen in the 1970s where it continued for more than 20 years, bringing renowned chefs from around the country, including Wolfgang Puck, Thomas Keller and Charlie Trotter, to Napa to share recipes and cooking lessons with vintners in what was then, according to Janet, “a culinary desert”. Today, Trefethen’s expansive gardens boast everything from fava beans, blackberries and edible flowers, to tomatoes, corn and 12 varieties of peppers. With Winery Chef Chris Kennedy on board and a portfolio of focused, elegant wines, the family is excited to offer these new culinary experiences.

Taste the Estate

For guests looking to immerse themselves in the flavors of Trefethen, Taste the Estate will provide an educational and fun way to experience all of Trefethen’s bounty—from the garden to the glass. The 90-minute experience is offered daily at 3pm for $100 per person and features four wines, each matched with Chef Kennedy’s pairings. A sample menu features Seared Pacific Scallop with Cantaloupe Emulsion and Sunflower Granola, Yakitori Grilled Hen of the Woods Mushroom with Cabernet Tare and Cured Egg Yolk and Air Bread “Tartine” with A5 Wagyu Beef and Aged California Cheddar. Fully customized versions of this tasting are also available, starting at $125 per person, by appointment.

Legacy Tastings

The new by-appointment-only Legacy Tastings will be personally hosted by third generation Trefethen family member Lorenzo Trefethen and will showcase Trefethen’s smallest production Legacy Collection wines alongside seasonal pairings from Chef Kennedy.

Guests will enjoy a tour of the Main Ranch vineyard, including a stop at Katie’s Acre, the source of the winery’s limited-production age-worthy Harmony Chardonnay. After returning to the Villa, a former family home surrounded by gorgeous gardens, the tasting continues with the inaugural vintage of The Cowgirl and The Pilot Merlot, Hailey and Lorenzo’s tribute wine for their parents and HāLo, the winery’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, along with pairings from Chef Aken. Menu highlights include Ricotta and Estate Tarragon Crème Brûlée, THE Morel Mushroom “Taco” and Spooner Rice + HāLo Risotto, with Charred Garden Beets. Legacy Tastings are offered for a minimum of four people for $175 per person by prior appointment only.

The Fine Print

For both Taste the Estate and Legacy Tastings, guests will be welcomed with a taste of Trefethen’s 2018 Dry Riesling and a walk through the recently restored winery whose original structure dates back to the 19th century. Both new culinary experiences launch in October and will be held in the Dining Room at the Villa, where the Trefethen family gathered for holiday meals when it was Gene and Katie Trefethen’s home. Reservations can be made by calling the winery at 707.255.7700.
