ROC-Sonoma to Hold Pre-Harvest Meeting at Shone Farm

Full Agenda includes Experimental Wine Tastings and 2019 Trial Plans

Rescue, CA, August 5, 2019 – The Sonoma regional chapter of the non-profit Research Oenovation Collective, ROC-Sonoma, along with the Sonoma County Wine Technical Group will host a meeting for wine industry professionals on Thursday August 15.

The theme for the August meeting will be Harvest 2019. The ROC-Sonoma meeting will kick-off at 4PM at the Santa Rosa Junior College Shone Farm Ag Pavilion at 7450 Steve Olson Lane in Forestville, with a social half-hour featuring light appetizers and beverages on the Ag Pavilion patio overlooking scenic Shone Farm.  

Included during the social time will be a presentation of some interesting trial wines including a Christian-Hansen FrootZen Non-Saccharomyces yeast influenced Sauvignon Blanc presented by Gusmer Enterprises Sonoma-Mendocino Technical Representative Ivonne Dresser and innovative Oak Infusion-Micro Ox produced wines utilizing the patented Infuseur Dynamique equipment presented by OenoFrance USA General Manager Fabien Machard De Gramont.

The social time will be followed by a presentation from ROC CEO Peter Salamone updating the ROC-Sonoma organization and describing the ROC trials which will be supported throughout 2019 with an exposition of the ROC supported trials fueling the bulk of the discussion. There will be an explanation of the factors that went into determining the scope of trials selected and how the results will help in determining future directions in Winestyle design and process selection.

Trial topics for discussion include:

2 Yeast Based Trials Non-Saccharomyces Yeast and Direct Dry Pitch Yeast
2 Enzyme Application Trials Targeted Red Extraction and Aroma Maturation
2 Vineyard Based Trials Irrigation Strategy and IDY Yeast Application
3 Winemaking Process Trials Cap Management, Hyper-Oxidation and Sur Lie Aging

The ROC is led by CEO Peter Salamone, driven by the ROC wine industry members, guided by an outstanding technical advisory committee and supported by industry sponsors and the ROC board of directors. In a unanimous vote at a meeting of the SCWTG board of directors, it was agreed that the SCWTG will merge with the ROC becoming ROC-Sonoma and will begin scheduling and holding regular meetings for wine industry professionals. Like all regional chapters of the ROC, ROC-Sonoma will meet five times yearly outside of harvest months.

We expect the ROC to bring a renewed focus on collaborative innovation with production-oriented, winery-based research. The ROC presents a unique opportunity for our members to benefit from the Collective’s knowledge base and activities throughout the West Coast to deliver new and interesting topics relevant to Sonoma County’s winemaking community.”

ROC CEO Peter Salamone says; “The ROC will develop and contribute to regularly scheduled regional ROC member meetings where members, partners, advisors and invited experts will deliver timely seminar and round table presentations on topics of interest.”

Membership in the ROC is open to any individual, corporation or other business entity engaged in operation and/or manufacture of; wine, winemaking products, processing technology, research or technical development.
