Reustle won GOLD medals for his 2016 Merlot, 2016 Syrah – Estate Selection, 2017 Syrah – Estate Selection, and 2017 Syrah – Winemaker’s Reserve as well as SILVER medals for his 2017 Grenache and 2017 Gruner Veltliner – Estate Selection.

Noted for his ability to craft award-winning wines from a variety of grapes, Stephen M. Reustle quickly points out that great wine is made in the vineyard and it all begins with great fruit. He credits his faith in God for the ability to grow great fruit. He also credits diligent research and careful selection of each clone of grape he planted beginning back in 2001 for the success he enjoys today.

Obviously pleased with these results, he noted, “Oregon is a great wine region, and the Umpqua Valley is especially well suited for growing high-quality grapes. It warms my heart to see the fruits of our labor show well in this competition. Each year we see Oregon wines improve and improve. For our wines to show well in this competition is a testament to what we can do in the Umpqua Valley. I am excited with these results and can’t wait to hear feedback from the public… after all the consumers are the ultimate judges.”

So far this season, Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards has earned 4 “Best of Class” designations and 32 Gold or Higher Medals in major wine competitions. With several other major wine competition yet to be held, it will be interesting to watch Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards’ wines as they continue to bring the wine spotlight on the Umpqua Valley.
