SALINAS, California – April 4, 2019 – Scheid Family Wines (SFW) announced today it has been awarded the 2019 California Green Medal.

Now in its fifth year, the California Green Medal: Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards recognize vineyards and wineries that are leaders in implementing the 3 E’s of sustainability ‑ environment, economic and social equity. They showcase the commitment California growers and vintners have made to protect the environment and people.

The four award categories honoring outstanding achievement in sustainability are Leader, Environment, Community and Business. Scheid Family Wines won the Environment Award, which is given to the vineyard or winery that best demonstrates Environmental Stewardship through maximized environmental benefits from implementing sustainable practices. The key criteria for the award include Water Use Efficiency; Soil and Nutrient Management; Pest Management; Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation; Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation; Human Resources; Solid Waste Management; and Neighbors and Community.

According to Scott Scheid, President & CEO “We are honored to receive the Green Medal Environment award. Sustainability is not an initiative at Scheid Family Wines; it is a core value. With many sustainability certifications to our name and a wind turbine that provides enough power to run our entire winery operation plus an additional 125 homes, we are committed to environmental stewardship and the well-being of our local community.”

The 2019 California Green Medal awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) building in Sacramento. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with state legislators.
