Napa, Calif. — Beringer Brothers, the most successful new wine brand by dollar sales in 2018(1), is adding a unique Sauvignon Blanc expression aged in Tequila barrels to expand the current offerings of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Blend aged in Bourbon Barrels.  All feature labels activated with the Living Wines Labels augmented reality app.

The California white wine is aged for 60 days in tequila barrels once used to age premium Tequilas, resulting in a wine that one critic says is “a unique animal being lush while sprite with subtle hints of agave.”(2)   All the Beringer Brothers wines have received positive critical acclaim.

The Beringer Brothers range, line priced at $16.99, pays tribute to Jacob and Frederick Beringer, who founded the iconic winery more than 150 years ago, originally as Beringer Brothers winery and distillery.  In the early days, the brothers aged wine in barrels from their distillery, finding that it not only made good economic sense, but imparted an array of wonderful flavors to the wines.  Beringer is the oldest continually operating winery in California, having survived the challenges of prohibition while other wineries were forced to close or suspend operations.  Mark Beringer, the great, great grandson of founder Frederick Beringer, now leads the winemaking at the winery, only the eighth person to have that role.

In paying homage to the “Spirit of the Frontier Reborn” the range is bottled to evoke spirits packaging, and the new Sauvignon Blanc features a flint colored glass to easily distinguish the white wine.  All the wines feature a label with a historic photo of the Beringer Brothers in front of the winery, and graphics that evoke the original labels.  With the Living Wine Labels app, the label comes to life as the Beringer Brothers ask for help in photographing their new winery.

The ultra-premium wine segment ($15-20) continues to grow(3), and within that segment, Sauvignon Blanc is growing even faster.(4) The bolder flavors of the wines aged in spirits barrels are targeted to appeal to younger wine drinkers.

A full suite of selling tools is available, including case cards, shelf talkers, neckers, a three-case wrap and “Tavern” sampling kits including scented barrel blocks that allow consumers to experience the influence of the spirits barrels while sampling.  Learn more at www.beringerbros.com
