Tailgate | Managing Pierce’s Disease: Lessons from Growers

Pierce’s Disease continues to challenge vineyards across California, but growers and researchers are working together to develop practical strategies for resilience.
Join us at Sea Smoke Vineyards to hear from Kris Lowe, who brings experience from her work with the CDFA Pierce’s Disease and Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Board and as a viticulture consultant. Kris will highlight key vineyard risk factors and share insights from current research focused on closing knowledge gaps and advancing sustainable management options.
Adam Tolmach (Ojai Vineyard) will share his firsthand experience managing Pierce’s Disease, including losing a vineyard in 1995 and replanting with UC Davis Pierce’s Disease-resistant vines in 2017.
We’ll wrap up with a grower panel discussion exploring real-world challenges and promising tactics being tested in the vineyard. Attendees will also have the opportunity to taste wines made from Adam’s disease-resistant vines and optionally join a tour of the beautiful Sea Smoke Vineyard property + an [optional] vineyard tour.
