June 10, 2025 — The California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) issued the following statements today in response to the announcement of upcoming leadership changes in the California State Senate.
“We congratulate Senator Monique Limón on her selection to serve as the next President Pro Tempore of the California State Senate,” said Gregg Hibbits, Chair of the CAWG Board. “Senator Limón represents the Central Coast wine country, including Santa Maria and Santa Barbara, and she understands the significant challenges facing the wine and broader agricultural industries and is well-qualified and incredibly prepared to take on this important leadership role. We look forward to working with her in her new leadership capacity.”
Over the past few years, both Senator Limón and current Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire have authored bipartisan legislation sponsored by CAWG. We thank them both for their interest in the wine industry and for taking on public policy issues of importance to winegrape growers.
“Mike McGuire has always seen public service as an honor and has well-represented the North Coast wine country on the Healdsburg City Council, Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, and California State Senate,” said Natalie Collins, President of CAWG. “McGuire has a keen awareness of our industry and an open door to those he represents. Grape growers thank Senator McGuire for his tremendous leadership and continued future in public service.”
CAWG remains committed to advocating on behalf of California winegrape growers and working with legislative leaders across the state to support policies that sustain the future of the wine industry.
