The Use of Drones in Vineyard Biocontrol

August 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT

Presented by: Melissa Hansen (Washington State Wine Commission),  David James (Washington State University), Andreas Neuman (UAV-IQ).

Washington wine grape growers and wineries are invited to watch a demonstration aerial release of grape mealybug and mite predators that are part of a Washington wine industry research project. The collaborative research brings together Washington State University entomologist Dr. David James and UAV-IQ Precision Agriculture, a private company that specializes in biological control through unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The study, which takes place this season, assesses the effectiveness of using attractants to boost the success of beneficials to control grape mealybug and mites in Washington vineyards and the costs of aerial release compared to manual release.
