Wohler Bridge Reopens, Restoring Southern Access to Gary Farrell Winery

June 17, 2025 (Healdsburg, CA) — Gary Farrell Winery, the iconic estate overlooking Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, is pleased to announce that the full closure phase of the Wohler Bridge Restoration Project is complete and the bridge has reopened for access at Westside Road. With the reopening of the historic Wohler Bridge, Gary Farrell Winery is now accessible via both Westside Road from downtown Healdsburg and River Road via Wohler Bridge. This significant infrastructure improvement means wine enthusiasts can once again savor the picturesque drive across this iconic landmark, making one’s journey to Gary Farrell Winery even more enjoyable.

Known for its unique architecture and historical significance, the Wohler Bridge is a vital local crossing over the Russian River in Sonoma County. Built in 1922, it is notable for its long length (768 feet overall) and is one of the few remaining bridges from the 1900s still in use in California. Sonoma County initiated a seismic retrofit project to preserve the bridge’s historical character while modernizing its structure for long-term safety and stability.

Gary Farrell Winery has only been accessible via the north end of Westside Road in Healdsburg since April due to the bridge closure and local roadworks. With the reopening of Wohler Bridge, guests can once again utilize both north, from Healdsburg, and south, from Santa Rosa via River Road and Wohler Road, streamlining travel to the winery’s scenic location.

Gary Farrell Winery is located at 10701 Westside Road in Healdsburg, California and is open daily from 10 AM – 4:30 PM, welcoming guests to experience its stunning views and acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Walk-ins are welcome, although reservations are recommended to ensure the best experience. Visitors can enjoy Gary Farrell’s flagship Discovery Tasting of single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays or opt for a ”choose your own adventure” experience of enjoying a glass or sharing a bottle of wine while taking in the breathtaking vista from the winery’s Overlook Terrace.
