Vinitaly 2025: The Barbera D’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium Wraps up a Strategically Important Edition for the Future of the Sector

Costigliole d’Asti, April 14th, 2025 – The participation of the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium in Vinitaly 2025 concludes with great satisfaction. The event stands as the leading platform for promoting and internationalizing Italy’s wine industry, featuring over 4,000 exhibiting companies from every Italian region and a fully booked exhibition center.
Vinitaly once again proves to be an essential opportunity for enhancing the value of Monferrato’s winemaking excellence and fostering international dialogue.

A central theme of this 57th edition was the issue of the recent tariffs imposed by the U.S. administration, which has raised concerns among Italian producers. Nevertheless, it did not prevent a strong presence of American buyers at the fair. This is a clear sign that, despite political and trade uncertainties, the U.S. market remains deeply interested in Monferrato wines, recognizing their value and quality. The Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium once again demonstrated great determination and resilience.

This edition of Vinitaly saw a massive presence of American buyers, despite the introduction of new tariffs on wine imports into the United States,” commented Vitaliano MaccarioPresident of the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium. “These measures certainly prompt important reflections, although we are not particularly concerned. We expect that the wines under our Consortium’s protection, especially Barbera, will not experience significant drops in sales, as the price increase will be minimal and we trust the market will be able to absorb it. Over the past few days, we’ve seen clear signs of appreciation for our wines in the U.S. market, both through the meetings held during Vinitaly and through the recent incoming mission of buyers from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. This strategic agreement has allowed our producers to showcase their excellence and establish new business relationships. It’s also worth noting that periods of economic contraction in certain markets can become opportunities to open up to other countries, with potential for commercial development in emerging markets.”

Charles Lazzara, CEO of Volio Imports, a national U.S. importer, stated:
Events like Vinitaly are an extraordinary opportunity not only to celebrate Italian wine culture, but above all to build concrete connections between producers and international markets. The recent tariffs imposed by the Trump administration have certainly cast a shadow over the markets; however, agreements like the one recently signed between the Barbera d’Asti Consortium and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board are excellent examples of how strategic collaboration can lead to tangible results for the entire sector. These partnerships open up new commercial relationships, strengthen the presence of Italian wines in the United States, and enhance the work of producers in their territories. This is the model to follow to build a sustainable and competitive future for Italian wine on a global scale.

Vinitaly stands out as an essential opportunity to strengthen dialogue with international stakeholders, safeguard the positioning of Italian wine in global markets, and foster growth and development opportunities, even in the face of challenging geopolitical contexts.
The Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium, thanks to the quality and competitiveness of its wines, looks to the future with determination, fully aware that versatility, quality, and innovation will be the key drivers in continuing to promote Monferrato’s winemaking heritage around the world. The Consortium remains confident that the U.S. market will continue to recognize the value of its wines.

The year 2025 continues to be a dynamic and eventful one for the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium, which is committed to enhancing its territory through a rich calendar of events. The goal is to make Barbera d’Asti and the other denominations protected by the Consortium a contemporary symbol of excellence, conviviality, and enjoyment.
