Malliouhana’s Celeste by Kerth Gumbs Restaurant Wins 2024 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Luxury Caribbean Resort and Anguillian Icon Reclaims Wine List Distinction After More Than A Decade

MEADS BAY, ANGUILLA, August 8, 2024—Malliouhana, Anguilla’s beloved luxury resort and “Grande Dame,” is proud to announce that its signature restaurant, Celeste by Kerth Gumbs, has been honored with the prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2024. This esteemed recognition is a testament to the knowledge and dedication of Malliouhana’s renowned sommelier team, led by James Beard Award-winner Shelley Lindgren and the original sommelier, Albert Lake. It marks a triumphant return to award-winning status for the resort’s wine program after over a decade.

Lindgren, an industry pioneer known for her expertise in Italian wines, has received numerous awards and accolades and was knighted by the Consulate General of Italy. “Working with Albert has been such a rewarding experience. This award reflects our commitment to Malliouhana’s guests, providing an outstanding wine program to enhance their gastronomic journey at Celeste by Kerth Gumbs,” she says. “We are thrilled to receive the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence once again.”

With a focus on wines that complement the cuisine and tell a story of terroir and tradition, the award is especially significant as Malliouhana welcomes a new culinary team led by celebrity chef and Anguillian native Chef Kerth Gumbs. “The staff has been pouring heart and soul into creating a wine program that enhances the rich dining experience at Celeste by Kerth Gumbs,” says Logan Miller, Malliouhana Managing Director. “We are honored to be recognized among the best in the industry. It’s a well-deserved award bestowed on our incredible team.”

Lindgren and Lake’s collaboration has revived and elevated the restaurant’s wine list to its former glory with a shared passion and unwavering commitment to excellence. Guests can expect fresh, elevated cuisine complemented by carefully selected wines from various vintages and regions. The list showcases a wide range of varietals, styles and prices, ensuring there is something to delight every palate, from celebrated classics to hidden gems.

Malliouhana’s longtime sommelier, Albert Lake, is the island’s most renowned wine expert and a legend in the industry. With deep appreciation and reverence for wine, he explains, “It’s exciting to receive recognition for our wines once again. We are proud to offer our guests a superb selection that pairs perfectly with the creations of our talented chefs.” A presence at Malliouhana for 40 years, Lake is steeped in the history of Malliouhana’s acclaimed cellar, knows guest preferences and says, “Wine should be fun. I love introducing guests to exceptional wines from around the world.” He adds, “The most important quality in any bottle is that you like it.”

Malliouhana continues to be a beacon of luxury and sophistication in the Caribbean, and the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence further solidifies its reputation as a premier destination for wine enthusiasts. Guests can indulge in the finest wines while savoring the world-class cuisine and breathtaking panoramic views that originally put Malliouhana and Anguilla on the map as a true island oasis.
