A year full of projects for the Tuscan winery which charts a course of continuous evolution that has always characterized the Chianti Classico wine reality
Greve in Chianti 4th of April 2024 – In the beating heart of Chianti Classico, Vecchie Terre di Montefili has emerged as a unique reality in the Tuscan wine scene. Situated on a panoramic hill at 1770 feet, the winery is recognized for its commitment to sustainability and its biodiverse vineyards located between 1570 and 1770 feet above sea level. Led by the talented oenologist Serena Gusmeri, Montefili is renowned for its environmentally-friendly viticulture and for the production of wines that tell the story of a special place: the Chianti Classico area.
2024 marks an exciting new chapter for the company. At Vinitaly 2024, Montefili will present to sector operators and enthusiasts the new vintages of its wines, released on the market on March 1st: Chianti Classico DOCG 2020, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019, Vigna Vecchia IGT Toscana 2019, Vigna Del Bosco IGT Toscana 2019, which will be presented with the new label, Anfiteatro IGT Toscana 2019 and Bruno di Rocca IGT Toscana 2016.
This year will also see the launch of important innovations produced according to the rigorous ethics of the Panzano bio-district. In particular, “Vigna nel Bosco IGT Toscana 2019” will see the light, the result of a small production of only 2400 bottles. “It is a selection of grapes from our highest vineyard (1770 ft) located in the Additional Geographical Unit (UGA) of Montefioralle which, in its essence, manages to embody and enclose the production philosophy of the winery itself: maximum respect for the terroir, attention to the environment and biodiversity, manual harvesting with selection in the vineyard and low-intervention winemaking” – says the oenologist at the helm of the emerging Tuscan winery.
Furthermore, the relaunch of the iconic reference “Bruno di Rocca IGT Toscana 2016” will take place, a historic and renowned Super Tuscan label from Montefili that is unique and full of personality. Since 2015, the owners, together with the oenologist Serena Gusmeri have strategically decided to dedicate 50% of the wine production to long cellaring to evaluate its evolution over time and identify the ideal drinking window for their wines. The first fruit of this strategic corporate vision to see the light will be Bruno di Rocca IGT Toscana 2016. In 2020, the historic Super-Tuscan produced with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Sangiovese, was praised highly by one of the leading experts in the sector, Wine Spectator journalist Bruce Sanderson, for the potential longevity that this wine contains.

Vecchie Terre di Montefili is located on the top of the panoramic hill Monte Fili of very ancient origins and from which it takes its name. It covers a vineyard area of 12.5 hectares in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, straddling two Chianti Classico UGA (Additional Geographical Unit): Panzano and Montefioralle. For over 20 years, it has been part of Italy’s first organic district (Panzano). In this place where history, nature and winemaking tradition have always been intertwined, the extraordinary adventure began that united the destiny of three American friends passionate about Italy, Nicola Marzovilla, Frank Bynum and Tom Peck Jr., and that of the expert winemaker Serena Gusmeri. From their passion for the microcosm of Montefili, its panoramas, its vineyards and their respect for nature, excellent products are born, awarded and recognized internationally, which tell of the heart of Chianti Classico and the Tuscan territory.
The first Sangiovese vineyard named “Anfiteatro” dates back to 1975, which was followed by further plantings thanks to the new ownership and a careful, innovative and sustainable approach to production by the oenologist and agronomist from Brescia at the head of the company.
