Next-Generation Wines Available in Select Markets and from the Winery in September
OAKVILLE, NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (September 12, 2023) — Driven by a shared curiosity and a dedication to continually evolve, Suzanne Groth and the winemaking team at Groth Vineyards & Winery set out to explore the potential of the family’s cherished estates and to create expressive new white wines that capture the distinct character of the estate vineyards where they are grown. The results — Groth 2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Groth 2022 Estate Chardonnay — will be available in select markets and directly from the winery starting in September.
“These two new releases reflect the unique character of our greatest assets — our family vineyard estates,” said Suzanne Groth, the winery’s second-generation President & CEO. “I’m extremely proud of these wines and what they represent to us here at Groth.”
Groth 2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Oakville ($65 SRP)
As Groth’s first white wine to carry the Oakville appellation, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc is sourced exclusively from the Groth family’s sustainably farmed Oakville Estate, in blocks once reserved for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. A blend of 89% Sauvignon Blanc and 11% Semillon, this wine has a beautiful balance of acidity and viscosity, plush and layered with Key lime and ripe stone fruit that finishes round yet bright with a hint of sea air salinity. The wine carries a gold stripe reminiscent of the signature red one that adorns Groth’s flagship Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, elevating this Sauvignon Blanc to reserve status.
“We wanted to create a wine that would showcase the beautiful white varieties grown on our Oakville Estate, just as the Reserve Cabernet has long showcased the reds,” Suzanne Groth explained.
Groth 2022 Estate Chardonnay, Hillview Vineyard, Napa Valley ($65 SRP)
Sourced exclusively from the Groth family’s 44-acre Hillview Vineyard, this wine represents the evolution of the Groth Chardonnay program — the culmination of significant investment in precision viticulture coupled with strides in the cellar. The wine is rich and luxurious with grilled peach and yellow plum flavors kept in focus by a lift of refreshing orange zest acidity.
“This elegant and beautifully balanced Chardonnay is the result of extensive investment in the health of our vineyards over the past four years, along with meticulous refinement of our approach in the winery,” Director of Winegrowing Ted Henry said.
About Groth Vineyards & Winery
Dennis and Judy Groth made a life-changing investment in 1981 when they bought a vineyard on Oakville Cross Road, in the heart of Napa Valley, with hopes it would produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. It didn’t take long for their intuition to be proven right. Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate gave the Groth 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon the distinction of being California’s first 100-point wine.
Today, with Dennis and Judy’s daughter, Suzanne Groth, as President & CEO, Groth sustainably farms two estates totaling 165 acres with the dual goals of producing the highest-quality, most elegant wines we can while caring for our estate for future generations. The winery produces critically acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
