PETALUMA, Calif (March 15, 2023) – The North of the Gate Wine Competition (NOTG) is pleased to announce that entries are now open for the 2023 competition, celebrating the unique wine region between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oregon border. For over a decade, NOTG has been a showcase for outstanding wines and the winemakers, growers, and winery professionals that call this bountiful landscape home.

This year’s competition is another exciting event, with entries open until April 14th, 2023. Early bird discounts are available for entries received before April 1st. Participants can visit Sonoma-MarinFair.org for more information about the competition or go directly to the Enofile Online website (enofileonline.com) for immediate registration and entry.

The judges will award Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, Best of Show, and Sweepstakes: Best Red, Blush/Rose, Sparkling, White, Sweet, and Fortified; Best of Class, Best of County, and Winemaker of the Year Competition Awards. In addition, one wine recognized to possess the highest quality characteristics will win Best of Show overall.

“We are thrilled to continue our tradition of recognizing our region’s best wines and winemakers,” said Tawny Tesconi, CEO Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, and Event Center. “Our panel of experienced judges will have the difficult task of selecting the winners from the exceptional entries we receive this year.”

The North of the Gate Wine Competition is open to wines from grapes grown in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Marin, Solano, and the overall Bay Area regions. A panel of experienced wine judges will judge entries, with winners revealed at a special awards ceremony later in the year.

“We are excited to see the caliber of wines entered in this year’s competition,” said Valery Uhl, the wine competition director. “With the range of categories and awards available, there is something for every winemaker to aspire to, and we look forward to recognizing the best of the best.”

In cooperation with Sonoma County’s prominent media partners North Bay Biz + KSRO Radio, the NOTG will provide heightened exposure to winning wineries in 2023. Wineries will also achieve exposure through additional news outlets, including print, radio, online, blogs, and social media, and exposure to thousands of consumers at the 2023 Sonoma-Marin Fair.

Wine tasting of the top medal winners will be available during the Sonoma-Marin Fair in the beautifully landscaped Wine Garden. Fairgoers can enjoy sips of wine Wednesday, June 21 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Thursday – Saturday, June 22 – June 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Sunday, June 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  More information can be found on the Sonoma-Marin Fair website. https://www.sonoma-marinfair.org
