Company’s Commitment to Sustainability Initiatives Drive Recognition for Second Year in a Row

LONDON (November 09, 2022) – Cult Wines, the company actively redefining the fine wine market, today announced it has received Carbon Neutral Plus Certification from Carbon Footprint. Continuing previous efforts, the company has achieved a 53.3% reduction in emissions from the baseline year (2021).

Cult Wines partnered with Carbon Footprint to identify its emissions totalled 128.51 carbon tonnes during the January 2021 to December 2021 assessment period. In addition, Cult Wines is further offsetting its carbon footprint by contributing to Gold Standard (GS) sustainability projects around the world, ultimately offsetting 475 carbon tonnes. Gold Standard is an international voluntary carbon offset standard.

The offsetting projects include:

  • Uganda Borehole – a micro project in Uganda, providing a source of clean drinking water to a local community.
  • India Cookstove – distributing energy efficient cook-stoves to households in India through The Breathing Space Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) programme. Replacing traditional stoves with cleaner and greener cooking stoves contributes towards solving the indoor air pollution problem caused by traditional stoves in addition to reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
  • China Cookstove – The Clean and Efficient Cooking and Heating Project is a fuel-switching and efficiency project operating in Shanxi, Hubei and Guizhou Provinces. The Project reduces greenhouse gases by selling different kinds of improved stoves that use excess agriculture residues (a 100% renewable fuel source), renewable wood, and improve the efficiency of coal consumption.

The Gold Standard community projects provide additional benefits, over and above offsetting carbon usage, that address social and economic issues that align with Cult Wines’ company CSR objectives.

“From harvest disruption and lower yields to some growing areas becoming unviable, climate change continues to threaten the shape of the wine industry as we know it,” said Tom Gearing, CEO & Co-Founder of Cult Wines. “It is our responsibility as a business that seeks to support the future of the fine wine industry to support sustainable initiatives across the globe.”

“We are thrilled to achieve Carbon Neutral Plus certification for the second year running and are proud of our ongoing commitment to building a more sustainable world,” said Patrick Thornton-Smith, CXO and CSR Lead for Cult Wines. “We plan to continue our efforts to enable important sustainability efforts in communities around the world as part of our broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavours.”
