In-person seminar features research outcomes and sensory evaluation of research wines

SEATTLE (June 30, 2022)—Washington wine grape growers and winemakers are invited to learn about the findings of research studying freeze impact on Cabernet Sauvignon, irrigation strategies for white wines and a breakthrough on markers of smoke exposed grapes and wine on July 27 at Washington State University’s Wine Science Center in Richland.

Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology (WAVE), the signature research event for the state’s wine industry, is sponsored by WSU and the Washington State Wine Commission. During the pandemic, the annual seminars were adapted to a webinar format.

WAVE 2022 will present the outcomes of three recently completed WSU research projects and include sensory evaluation (tasting) of the research wines made for the project:

  • Evaluation of Freeze Impact on Cabernet Sauvignon Wines – Dr. Jim Harbertson
  • Irrigation Strategies to Optimize White Wine Quality – Dr. Markus Keller
  • Assessment of Smoke Exposure on Wine – Dr. Tom Collins

The $15 registration fee includes a wine social hour. Pre-registration is required as seats are limited. Register here.

About WAVE and WAVEx:

Washington Advancements in Viticulture and Enology (WAVE) and WAVEx are a series of research seminars and webinars sponsored by the Washington State Wine Commission and Washington State University. WAVEx is the condensed, shorter webinar series. The events help make wine research findings more accessible to growers and wineries.

About the Washington State Wine Commission:

The Washington State Wine Commission (WSWC) represents every licensed winery and wine grape grower in Washington State. Guided by an appointed board, WSWC provides a marketing platform to raise positive awareness about the Washington wine industry and generate greater demand for its wines. Funded almost entirely by the industry through assessments based on grape and wine sales, WSWC is a state government agency, established by the legislature in 1987.
