Only American Winery Awarded by World of Malvasia

6 June – (DEMING, NM) — In the heart of the Mediterranean region, the “World of Malvasia” competition in  Croatia is held annually to gather some of the best varieties of Malvasia wines from across the world. In  Croatia, Malvasia varieties are considered an indigenous variety with a strong connection to the land.

In New Mexico, the Lescombes Family has cultivated award-winning Malvasia Bianca for over thirty  years. In particular, their New Mexico grown St. Clair Malvasia Bianca has won over 39 awards, including  12 Gold medals from various national and international competitions. It appears that the judges in  Croatia agreed and recognized the quality of St. Clair Malvasia Bianca with a 90 point rating and added  another gold medal to the collection, the only medal awarded to an American winery.

“Malvasia Bianca grows really well here,” said Melissa Porter, Winemaker at Lescombes Family  Vineyards. “Our hot, dry climate brings out beautiful aromas of spice and perfume.”

Along with their St. Clair Malvasia Bianca, the Lescombes family also brought home an 87 point rating  and silver medal for their locally grown D.H. Lescombes 6-3-1 Signature Series Malvasia-Riesling, a  favorite at their bistro locations and tasting rooms across New Mexico.

“It’s always nice to be recognized,” added Florent Lescombes, Proprietor. “We make world class wines  here in New Mexico, and the awards back that up.”

The World of Malvasia evaluation is an annual event on the Istria Peninsula in Croatia gathering the best  Malvasia wines in the world. The judges consist of top international experts who evaluate the wines  according to the strict provisions of the competition regulations in addition to the provisions of the  International Organization of Vine and Wine, based in Paris, France. According to competition organizers,  ‘A medal won is a confirmation that you are certainly among the best Malvasia producers in the world.’

St. Clair Malvasia Bianca and D.H. Lescombes 6-3-1 Signature Malvasia-Riesling, along with many other  award-winning varieties, are available direct from the winery at lescombeswinery.com. The Lescombes  family also recently announced the unveiling of a new look for their St. Clair wines. Learn more at  stclairwine.com
