After 23 Years, Newberg Winery Known for Panoramic Views and Grape Varietals to Celebrate New Name

NEWBERG, Ore. (May 4, 2022) – Vidon Vineyard has announced a new name for its established winery, Compris Vineyard. The winery will celebrate with special tasting menus and events from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, over Memorial Day weekend.

The Vidon Vineyard team made the collective decision to change their name to reflect their mission and values, striving to create a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable community through wine. Known for Syrah and Tempranillo in addition to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the vineyard will be releasing its first wine under the Compris label over Memorial Day weekend, a savory 2021 Rosé of Tempranillo.

To create the new logo and wine labels, the Vidon team underwent an incredible rebranding process with Murmur Creative agency. The Compris wine labels are expertly designed to capture the soul of the property along with the winery’s mission, with the Rosé of Tempranillo label highlighting the destination’s bird population, flowers and Willamette Valley skies.

Compris’ Memorial Day weekend events will offer wine tastings, live jazz music, and bites from Biscuits & Pickles. Tickets include one glass of Rosé of Tempranillo; 2018 Estate Chardonnay; or 2017 3-clones Pinot Noir; and food for $40 each, available here. In honor of Oregon Wine Month during May, Compris will also offer a Heritage Wine Bundle, including 2018 Estate Chardonnay, 2017 3-Clones Pinot Noir, and two Vidon wine glasses. The bundle is available for $90 to pick up on-site or via shipping options through the website.

Founded as Vidon Vineyard in 1999 by Vicki and Don Hagge, the winery has developed a tradition of thoughtful, minimal intervention winemaking and respect for the wineyard soil. Compris owners Dru and Erin Allen purchased the winery in November 2020 before appointing Tiquette Bramlett as President in May 2021, the first Black woman appointed to oversee a winery in the country, and founder of Our Legacy Harvested, a nonprofit supporting diversity in wine. The Compris team, including winemaker Dr. David Bellows, will be pouring wines throughout Memorial Day weekend.

“In the past couple of years, we’ve learned how to operate a winery and about the powerful connections that can be made through wine,” said Dru Allen. “We’ve made it through our first harvest season and have focused on building connections through hosting events, including a “Raising the Temp!” Oregon Tempranillo festival in October, which brought together 12 Oregon wineries. We’re looking forward to building the Compris brand and our community coming together through wine.”

ABOUT COMPRIS VINEYARD

Compris Vineyard, previously Vidon Vineyard, brings a delightfully unconventional approach to everything it does: a bold mission to change how people think about the wine industry, promoting inclusivity and equitable opportunity. Compris believes in empowering the community to challenge industry traditions and foster positive change. Both the vineyard and winery are certified under the LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) program and Salmon Safe, and every step in the process is done gently, mostly by hand.

Founded in 1999 as Vidon Vineyard, the estate uses a traditional hands-off approach, allowing the unique microexpressions of the vineyard to come through in the final vintage. Lured into the winegrowing business by the Willamette Valley wine community’s commitment to sharing, kinship, teaching and quality, in November 2020, Erin and Dru Allen purchased the vineyard, drawn to its stunning wines and breathtaking views. Compris’ current head winemaker is Dr. David Bellows, a former yeast biologist who also made the 2017 and 2018 vintages. The Allens hired Tiquette Bramlett in spring of 2021 as president to oversee the vineyard’s operations and ensure every aspect advances Compris’ mission of responsibly growing diversity, inclusivity, and community through wine.

Compris Vineyard is located at 17425 NE Hillside Dr in Newberg, OR, and is open for indoor and outdoor tastings by appointment only. To schedule a reservation, call 503-538-4092.
