San Rafael, Calif. (January 25, 2022) – Orfila Winery from Argentina launched in the U.S. in January with a line of five wines sourced from premier vineyards in Mendoza. Palmateer Wine Group of San Rafael, California, is the U.S. importer and sales company for Orfila.

Premium vineyards in Mendoza are at the heart of Orfila, and the winery uses grapes from some of the finest vineyards in the region, including sites in Uco Valley, Lujan de Cuyo, and Maipú. Orfila wines available in the U.S. include Malbec Reserva, Uco Valley ($20); Red Blend Reserva, Uco Valley ($20); Malbec Estate Selection, Mendoza ($15); Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Selection, Mendoza ($15); and Malbec Classic, Mendoza ($13). Orfila’s style is elegant and refined, celebrating European traditions while showcasing the finest fruit character of Mendoza’s vineyards.

Spanish immigrant José Orfila founded the winery in 1905 in Mendoza on lands that were once owned by José de San Martin, Argentina’s founding father. In 2010, the Gancia family, accomplished Italian winemakers who had established themselves in Argentina decades earlier, merged their winemaking traditions with the Orfila family when they acquired the winery. The pioneering spirit of the two families remains today.

“Orfila is a story of family winemaking tradition and some of the finest vineyards in Mendoza,” noted Juan Ruiz, export director for Orfila. “We make wines that reflect the great character and quality of the vineyards, and we make them in a style that is easy to enjoy, with beautiful fruit structure and round tannins. These wines are very well positioned for the U.S. fine wine market.”
