The International Riesling Expo Returns to the Finger Lakes with Flxcursion 2021: Riesling and the New Normal

The Industry Professionals Conference Kicks Off July 17th Through the 20th with In-depth Tastings, Seminars and Dinners

Geneva, New York, July 7, 2021 – Following the success of the 2019 conference, the International Riesling Expo returns to the Finger Lakes for FLXCursion 2021: Riesling and the New Normal. From July 17th through the 20th, Riesling producers, academics, Masters of Wine, writers, beverage professionals, and Riesling enthusiasts from all over the world will come together to celebrate this unique grape variety.

The excursion portion of the conference is a grand tour of the Finger Lakes that explores the terroir of the region. Instead of the traditional winery visits, tastings for the grand tour will occur at vineyards and other unique destinations to showcase the geology, climate, agriculture and history of the Finger Lakes and why it is so well suited for growing Riesling. Conference seminars will dive deep into Riesling topics such as “Riesling: Wet and Dry, The Present Climate,” “Terroir and the Age of the Internet,” “Riesling and Beyond, The New Frontiers” and many others. Discussions will be led by top industry experts including Stuart Pigott, Nova Cadamatre MW, David Schildknecht, Miguel de Leon, Kelli White, and Thomas Pastuszak; concluding with a keynote address by Andrea Immer Robinson MS.  Joining the conversations with Finger Lakes winemakers will be renowned Riesling producers from around the globe including Ernst Loosen from Weingut Dr. Loosen, Johannes Selbach of Selbach-Oster, Andreas Huetwohl from Weingut von Winning, Kerry Shiels from Côte Bonneville, and many more.

“We are thrilled to host the Riesling community back in the Finger Lakes. It’s such a rare opportunity to have industry experts from around the world together to discuss a single grape variety, learn from previous years, and look ahead to what we can make better and brighter in a brave new world,” explained Kelby James Russell, FLXCursion 2021 Co-Chair and winemaker at Red Newt Cellars. “Hosting this expo not only confirms the Finger Lakes as a premiere Riesling destination, but also allows us to share all the elements that make Finger Lakes Riesling stand out,” continued Oskar Bynke, FLXCursion 2021 Co-Chair and Co-Owner of Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard

This conference is made possible thanks to many Riesling producing countries and regions working together, including Wines of Austria, Wines of Germany, Washington State Wine Commission, the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance, the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and a collaboration of Australian Wineries.

The public seminars will be held on Saturday, July 17th and tickets are available for $100. Tickets for the Sunday July 18th grand tour of the Finger Lakes are available for $100. To attend the full professional industry conference, in-person tickets are available for $500. Virtual attendees can join for $50. For more information and to purchase tickets visit FLXCursion.com.

About Geneva Community Projects Inc.

Geneva Community Projects Inc. is a charitable corporation dedicated to building and renewing the strengths of the Geneva Community through projects designed to promote the public good and uplift the human spirit. Geneva Community Projects Inc. was incorporated in 1992 as a not-for-profit NY corporation. The corporation was formed by a group of Geneva area residents for the immediate purpose of sponsoring the Geneva Community Playground Project. However, the word Projects, plural, was chosen because the founders envisioned using the corporation to sponsor other community projects in the future. Today this vision is a reality, as the Geneva Community Projects supports numerous initiatives including lakefront Adirondack chairs, a butterfly garden and a community wine celebration. All projects must support Geneva Community Project Inc. goals, have a direct and tangible impact on the community, be open to the public and be supported by primarily area volunteers and/or funding.
