Geneva, 13 June 2019 – 100 years after the creation of Domaine René Engel, exceptionally well-preserved and with the most perfect provenance, the 1’157 bottles and other large formats composing this sale, spread over 168 lots, will be offered at auction on Sunday June 16th, 2019 from 2pm onwards at Hotel Beau-Rivage in Geneva.

This historic sale to be held by Baghera/wines is an unique opportunity to acquire the very last bottles from the Domaine and to pay an ultimate tribute to René, Pierre and Philippe Engel, a trilogy of pioneers and passionate winemakers, who each left their mark on Burgundy’s fine wines’ history.

Founded by René Engel in 1919, the Domaine is located in Vosne-Romanée at the very heart of the Bourgogne viticole. Between 1919 and 2004, three men – René, Pierre and Philippe – succeeded each other, from father to son, to run the family’s vineyard, which includes some of the most prestigious Burgundian crus.

Memo – The estimate for these 168 lots to go under the hammer goes from CHF 550 (low estimate) for 3 bottles of Vosne-Romanée Les Brûlées 1994 (lot 29) to CHF 20’000 (low estimate) for a 16-magnum vertical of Échezeaux from 2003 to 1976 (lot 98), with a sale global estimate comprised between CHF 800’000 and CHF 1,8 million (between 700’000 and 1,6 million Euros).
