Marbue Marke has been named Director of Winegrowing at Italics Winegrowers

(Napa Valley)– Italics Winegrowers is proud to name Marbue Marke as the winery’s new Director of Winegrowing. He will lead the winemaking program for both the Italics Winegrowers and (Sixteen) Appellations portfolios, with the vision of continuing Italics’ drive to become an industry leader in precision viticulture and estate winegrowing.

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Marbue’s winemaking journey is as unique as it is impressive. At just 15 years old, Marbue attended UC Davis’ Pre-Med program and was the first member of his family to relocate to the United States. As he explored the medical field, his course was forever altered when he was offered an internship in winemaking. The experience was transformative and uncovered an exciting passion for crafting exceptional wines. Marbue graduated with a degree in enology from UC Davis and later earned an M.B.A. from Sonoma State University.

After receiving his degrees, Marbue began his winemaking journey at an impressive selection of Napa and Sonoma’s famous wineries – J Winery, Cosentino, Benzinger, and industry giant, EJ Gallo. More recently, Marbue was named Bonfort’s 2018 U.S. Winemaker of the Year for his modestly sized but impressive portfolio of hand-crafted boutique wines. If you ask him, the culmination of these experiences together lead him right where he was meant to be: crafting small lot, ultra-premium wine. He brings an extensive knowledge of Coombsville’ s unique terroir and a track record of producing a beautiful and a well-balanced portfolio of wines.

The Martin Family is enlivened by the renewed vision for the Italics and Appellations portfolio and are excited to have Marbue join the team. For nearly fifty years the Martin Family mastered cultivating the Ruby Red Grapefruit, and, in 2014, they shifted their focus and passion to winegrowing. The family’s attention to detail when it comes to all aspects of winemaking, vineyard management, and brand integrity has cemented their reputation for excellence in developing a liquid work of art. Marbue’s quality of winemaking and stature amongst his peers, combined with Italics’ vision and passion for winegrowing, has set the stage for a promising future for Coombsville wines.
