In June, the “Henri Jayer, The Heritage” auction featuring 855 bottles and 209 magnums originating from Henri Jayer’s personal cellar went under the hammer and realized an impressive record amount of CHF 34,5 million. This now historical sale sets up a new reference standard for all rare wine auctions, surpassing all precedent records and making it the biggest wine auction in the world, ever.
In December, the unique auction “Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, The Secret cellar of a European collector” – a remarkable private collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines, composed of over 1500 bottles, magnums and jeroboams, reached CHF 11,6 million. This sale, dedicated solely to wines of the Domaine, has become the second biggest wine auction held in Europe, just behind the Jayer auction, and can be added to the list of events which will remain amongst the references of fine wine auctions.
