Respected Viticulturist Joins Historic Napa Valley Winery

St. Helena, Napa Valley, Nov. 5, 2018 — Heitz Cellar is pleased to announce that Toby Halkovich has been named as the new Vice President of Operations. Robert Boyd, President & CEO at Heitz Cellar stated, “We look forward to Toby’s contributions to our winery today and as we turn to our bright future.”

“This is an exciting time for Heitz Cellar and I am honored to join the team at one of Napa Valley’s most iconic wineries,” Halkovich said. His responsibilities will include leadership and oversight of vineyard operations, winemaking, production and facilities.

Most recently the Director of Vineyard Operations at Cakebread Cellars, Halkovich had served as their Viticulturist for almost a decade. Earlier in his career Halkovich worked in product sales for an agricultural supply company and was the vineyard manager for Kenwood Vineyards. He graduated from UC Davis with a degree in agricultural and managerial economics and then earned an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Aside from his professional career, he has been a volunteer fire fighter for the Kenwood area since 1997. Toby lives in Santa Rosa with his family.

Founded in 1961, Heitz Cellar is a true Napa Valley legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. Pioneering vintner Joe Heitz ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally-celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard. In 2018, the winery entered an exciting new chapter as the Heitz family passed this rich legacy into the hands of the Lawrence family, whose deep roots in agriculture and commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking made it a perfect match. With Gaylon M. Lawrence, Jr. and Robert Boyd at the helm, the winery will continue to offer wines in the quintessential Heitz style. Made with an unwavering commitment to quality from organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, Heitz wines celebrate their agrarian roots and commitment to the stewardship of Napa Valley.

Heitz Cellar worked with wine industry executive search company The Cypress Group to fill the role.
