Jackson Family Wines and Scheid Family Wines Certify Additional Acreage the Wine Industry’s Premier Sustainability Organization Opens 2019 Certification Process on December 1
Atascadero, California, November 5, 2018 –SIP Certifiedâ (Sustainability in Practice) is one of the wine industry’s oldest and most important organizations to certify that vineyards, wines and wineries use sustainable practices. SIP Certified launched its pilot program in 2008 with 3,700 acres of vines between Monterey and Santa Barbara counties. Today, there are 43,600 acres of vines in California and Michigan and more than 36 million bottles of wine that have been SIP Certified. The group recently announced the certification of a number of new vineyards and the expansion of acreage at currently certified vineyards for 2018.
New Vineyards Certified
Two properties on the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA owned by John Wagner were newly certified in 2018: Breeze Ranch (20 acres certified) and John Sebastiano Vineyard (130 acres certified). The Record Family’s 18.53-acre Paso de Record Vineyard in the Paso Robles AVA was also newly certified.
Additional Acreage Certified
Jackson Family Wines certified additional acreage at the following vineyards: Ferguson (Sonoma County), Fieldstone (Sonoma County), Copain (Sonoma County) and High Rock (Mendocino County). These sites contribute fruit to a number of JFW’s ultra-premium and luxury-class wineries and brands. As of 2018, all of Jackson Family Wines’ California vineyards– more than 12,500 acres – are now SIP Certified. Scheid Family Wines certified an additional 742 acres in Monterey County in 2018, raising their total of SIP Certified acres to 1,080. The following sites were included: Baja Viento Vineyard, Elm Vineyard, Scheid Vineyard and Viento Vineyard. Viticulture Management Inc. certified an additional 110 acres at three sites ‑ Bear Valley Vineyard, Terra Bella Vineyard and White Cliffs Vineyard – bringing their total to 1,635 acres of SIP Certified vineyards in California.
2019 Vineyard and Winery Certification Starts December 1
SIP Certified opens its 2019 certification process on December 1, 2018. To get more information or to start the process, vineyards and wineries can visit https://app.sipcertified.org/ or contact Beth Vukmanic Lopez, SIP Certified Manager, at 805.466.2288 ext. 3 or beth@vineyardteam.org. Applicants can choose to certify their vineyard or winery by implementing the rules covered in the Standards. Individual wines can carry the SIP Certified seal on their packaging when they are made with at least 85% SIP Certified fruit as verified by an inspection.
