Taylor Fladgate introduces the Historical Collection Reserve Tawny while Croft premieres the 430TH Anniversary Reserve Ruby

(NEW YORK, NY – August 20, 2018) – The Fladgate Partnership is excited to debut two new limited-edition wines this September, Taylor Fladgate Historical Collection Reserve Tawny and Croft 430th Anniversary Reserve Ruby, in honor of the Port Houses’ rich history.

“Taylor Fladgate and Croft are two of the oldest Port houses in the world and have helped to shape the Douro Valley,” says Adrian Bridge, CEO of The Fladgate Partnership. “We wanted to honor that legacy by creating special editions that represent traditional, elevated styles to produce the best available wines.”

Having been founded more than 300 years ago, Taylor Fladgate remains a benchmark of quality and style amongst regional producers. The Historical Collection Reserve Tawny showcases the producer’s long history and mastery of the art of cask aging and blending. The limited-edition wine was carefully blended from specially selected Ports from Taylor Fladgate’s extensive aged Tawny stocks, aged in seasoned oak Port casks. It has a unique character that balances the signature richness of the producer with a distinctive grip on the finish. The new release features a commemorative, early 18th Century style bottle to further pay homage to the producer’s long legacy.

As the oldest Port house in the world, Croft Port is celebrating its founding in 1588 with a limited edition 430th Anniversary Reserve Ruby. The wine was made with grapes sourced from the highest quality in the Douro Valley. The label displays a reproduction of the work “Sinking of the Spanish Armada in 1588” by the Dutch artist Jan Luyken, which is part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The bottle comes housed in a distinctive outer tube, making it the perfect gifting item.

Taylor Fladgate Historical Collection Reserve Tawny

20% ABV, 1000ml, $59.99 SRP

Tasting Notes: A core of deep brick red fading to russet on the rim. A beautifully mature and complex nose, full of evocative, subtle nuances. Aromas of plum, fig and raisin blend with a mellow redolence of marzipan and butterscotch. Hints of cigar box, cedarwood and leather add an exotic dimension to the nose. The wine is seductively round and smooth with discreet, beautifully integrated tannins adding an attractive dryness and grip. The wine is full of rich, fruit cake flavors with some fresh plum character emerging on the long finish.

Croft 430th Anniversary Reserve Ruby

20% ABV, 750ml, $24.99 SRP

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby black color with a narrow purple rim. The nose opens with a fine crisp fruitiness, black cherry, blackberry and cassis, and aromas of fresh plum. Delicate floral notes of rose petal and violets emerge to provide elegance and complexity.

The wine has the typical Croft roundness and smoothness offset by a fresh acidity and firm but well integrated tannins. The palate is crammed with intense berry fruit and finishes with luscious flavors of strawberry and cherry. A superb reserve Port, displaying all the fine fruit character which is a hallmark of the Croft style.

About Taylor Fladgate:

Taylor Fladgate is one of the oldest Port houses, established in 1692, and celebrates its 325th anniversary this year. It has remained a family business since its foundation and is dedicated entirely to the production of the finest quality Port, from the planting of the vineyards and the cultivation of the grapes to the making, ageing, blending and bottling of the wines. The family’s commitment to the future of Port is demonstrated by its determination to preserve the unique environment of the Douro Valley through the promotion of sustainable and responsible viticulture.

The company is known above all for its elegant and long lived Vintage Ports, which are amongst the world’s most recognised, sought after and collectible wines. They are drawn from the firm’s three distinguished ‘quintas’ or estates, Vargellas, Terra Feita and Junco. Taylor Fladgate pioneered the LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) category and continues to be the category reference worldwide. It also pioneered dry white Port with the release in 1934 of Chip Dry, the first Port of this style, and was the first to develop the Single Quinta Vintage category. Taylor Fladgate is also regarded as one of the leading producers of Aged Tawnies and holds one of the most extensive reserves of cask aged Port.

About Croft:

Croft is the oldest port house with a distinguished history dating back to 1588. The Croft family, originally wine merchants from York, played an active and prominent part in the history of the Port trade. Croft is one of the most well-known Vintage Port houses and has produced some legendary Vintage wines, notably the exceptional 1945 regarded as one of the best of this landmark year. The character of Croft Vintage Ports is one of the most distinctive and individual of all. Crammed with luscious plump jammy fruit in their youth, they develop great richness and complexity with age. The cornerstone of the Croft Vintage Port style is the firm’s estate of Quinta da Roêda. Often described as the jewel of the Douro Valley quintas, Roêda forms a vast south west facing semicircle of terraced vineyard on the right bank of the Douro close to the village of Pinhão.
