PLACERVILLE, CA: El Dorado Wine Grape Growers Association President, Benjamin Falk, has announced that an investigator with the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Market Enforcement Branch (CDFA MEB) will be addressing grape growers and interested parties at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the El Dorado Grape Growers Association meeting held at the Veterans Memorial Building located at 130 Placerville Dr., Placerville.

GETTING PAID: What to do to get your money on time or when buyers refuse to pay is the timely, pre-harvest topic presented by a special investigator with CDFA MEB. Discussed will be the department’s legal protections and enforcement work that help growers protect themselves against non-payment for their crop or if a business refuses to pay.

CDFA MEB actions on behalf of growers include: processing and investigating complaints from growers against processors or wineries for failure to pay and/or failure to abide by terms of the written contract; Food and Agricultural Code provisions entitling growers to a Producer’s Lien on grapes or wine made from their grapes; licensing requirements for grape buyers; and, possible CDFA disciplinary, civil or criminal actions against processors or wineries dependent upon the circumstances of the case.

This will be a very informative and valuable meeting for grape growers, wineries and all interested parties. Please join us and bring your specific questions for the CDFA investigator. There is no charge to attend but wine donations are always appreciated. Space is limited.
