San Francisco, Calif. – July 17, 2018 – California Artisan Cheese Guild (CACG), the state’s only nonprofit dedicated to sustaining California’s artisan cheesemaking community, today announces that tickets are now on sale for the Fourth Annual SF Cheese Fest taking place September 15th and 16th at Social Hall SF and The Cheese School of San Francisco. Due to the ever-growing excitement around local cheese, SF Cheese Fest is expanding to two days of cheese education and enjoyment, featuring Saturday night’s popular walk-around tasting event, the Cheesemaker Celebration, followed by a brand new series of Sunday Seminars with The Cheese School of San Francisco.

This year’s theme is “4 x 4” in honor of the SF Cheese Fest’s fourth anniversary and also the fact that California is in a unique space to have cheeses made from four milk types (cow, goat, sheep, and water buffalo). “This year’s theme is a testament to the active and growing interest in small-batch, hand-crafted cheese produced here in California,” says Jill Giacomini Basch of Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company. “We are so lucky to not only have cheesemakers that continue to be innovative with their recipes and methods, but we also have an active cheese-loving audience that seek out our products.”

At Saturday night’s Cheesemaker Celebration, guests will meet and mingle with over 20 Guild-member cheesemakers from across the state, sampling dozens of new and classic California cheeses made from the milk of cows, goats, sheep and water buffalo. The cheeses will be paired with breads and crackers from Rustic Bakery, McVicker Pickles, Lemon Bird Preserves, charcuterie by Fabrique Delices (pictured below), and sweets by Dandelion Chocolate. There will also be a wide array of local beer, cider and wine to ensure lively pairing discoveries, including Fort Point Beer Co., Lagunitas Brewing Co., AppleGarden Cider, Golden State Cider, Tilted Shed Cider, Donkey & Goat and Herb Lamb Vineyards. To further complement the variety of cheeses, accoutrements, and beverages, “4 x 4” will feature inspired bites made by chefs and cheesemongers including a Raclette station by Mission Cheese and surprise “Chef Bite” by GreenLeaf, alongside tasty morsels from The Cheese School of San Francisco, Canyon Market and the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses. While sipping and sampling, guests will also enjoy the lively sounds of SF’s renowned gypsy-jazz quartet, Gaucho, and all attendees will receive a free 1-year subscription to Culture Magazine.

“SF Cheese Fest is where our passions collide,” says Rosemary Paquet of Qualtech, a company that manufactures specialized equipment for cheesemakers as well as providing engineering, design, construction, installation, and automation services. “Our passion is helping cheesemakers fulfil their dreams, and now that we have a permanent home in Northern California, we can’t wait to meet everyone in this amazing cheese community.”

New this year, a variety of educational seminars will be offered on Sunday, September 16th at The Cheese School of San Francisco in Ghirardelli Square. These Sunday Seminars will give local cheese lovers the opportunity to delve deeper into several delicious topics, including:

  • Coffee, Cola and Cheese, Oh My! with Certified Cheese Professional Vanessa Chang ($79; 11am-1pm);
  • California Dreamin’: Exploring California Cheeses with Liz Rubin of Bi-Rite Market ($69; 3-5pm); and
  • Corks + Curds: Cheeses and Wines of California with Kristin Jackson, author of “It’s Not You, It’s Brie” ($79; 7-9pm)

This year is particularly exciting because there are several cheesemakers participating in the SF Cheese Fest for the first time, including Gold Sponsor Di Stefano Cheese. “This is our first year participating in the SF Cheese Festival, and we can’t wait to join in on the fun,” says Alyssa Lightner of Di Stefano Cheese. “The theme 4 x 4 is particularly exciting for us because we are now producing cheese from two of the four milk types California is known for, including buffalo milk mozzarella and ricotta di bufala, in addition to all of our cows’ milk cheeses.”

In addition to Di Stefano, the other newcomers to the SF Cheese Fest scene include Daily Driver SF, Folly Cheese Co., Nicolau Farms and Rumiano Cheese Co. The pioneering cheesemakers in attendance this year include Bellwether Farms, Cowgirl Creamery, Cypress Grove (pictured below), Laura Chenel’s, Marin French Cheese and Point Reyes Farmstead. Local favorites Achadinha Cheese, Bleating Heart Cheese, Moonside Creamery, Nicasio Valley Cheese and Tomales Farmstead Creamery will also be joining the fun; and from the around the state, Central Coast Creamery, Pedrozo Dairy & Cheese, Sierra Nevada Cheese Co., Stuyt Dairy Farmstead Cheese and William Cofield Cheesemakers will join the festivities alongside California’s cousin-in-cheese from Utah, Beehive Cheese.

SF Cheese Fest would not be possible without the continued support from their sponsors, especially 2018 Platinum sponsor The Chefs’ Warehouse; Gold industry sponsors Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company, Di Stefano Cheese and The Cheese School of San Francisco; Silver industry sponsors Bellwether Farms, Cowgirl Creamery, World’s Best Cheeses, Formaticum, Gourmet News, Greenleaf and Qualtech; and Bronze industry sponsors Beehive Cheese, Cypress Grove Cheese, Hilmar Cheese, Rumiano Cheese Co., Sierra Nevada Cheese Co., Tony’s Fine Foods, Rustic Bakery, Cogent Solutions and Supplies, Food Matters Again, Canyon Market, Culture Magazine, and Real California Milk.

“This is our opportunity to acknowledge and support all of the Bay Area’s cheese producers’ extremely hard work, and say thank you,” says Jennifer Sussman of The Chefs’ Warehouse (Platinum Sponsor).

Saturday’s Cheesemaker Celebration takes place from 6 – 9pm on September 15th at Social Hall SF, located at 1270 Sutter Street in San Francisco. Tickets are $84 each and includes entry and access to all bites, beverages and live music. Limited “Bring a Friend” tickets will be $149 for two and are available through 8/31. Tickets are now on sale through the SF Cheese Fest website www.sfcheesefest.com/tickets.

The Sunday Seminars will take place on September 16th at The Cheese School of San Francisco’s new Ghirardelli Square campus. Each seminar will last two hours and the pricing and timing of each seminar may be found at http://www.sfcheesefest.com/sunday-seminars-1/. Tickets may be purchased at www.sfcheesefest.com/tickets.
