WINE WOMEN’s July 24th event, “Help Yourself. Volunteer!” offers guests tips on “How to Build Your Resume (through volunteerism) in 3 Steps.” This complimentary recruiting and orientation event will be held at Raymond Vineyards in St. Helena at 5:30 p.m. and will:

  • demonstrate how guests can volunteer to enhance their resumes
  • discuss how building leadership skills can add to guests’ CVs
  • provide guests with an opportunity to learn about, and sign up for, their new Volunteer Program, which helps participants grow their networks and skills while laying the groundwork for advancement and leadership within WINE WOMEN.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

President Christine L. Mueller explained, “Thanks to the support of our members, WINE WOMEN has grown faster than anticipated. We’d like to share how getting involved with our organization has expanded our industry contacts. Our goal is to help members grow their network and add leadership skills to their resume. As we enter Phase Two of our growth and head into our third year of operation, we’re in a position to add key opportunities that will help our members gain valuable skills for their careers. With a volunteer team having input on topics and then executing these programs, we all grow and all give back to the industry on a larger scale.”

Mueller clarified further, “Members can volunteer as much or little as fits their schedule. (Volunteer positions can vary from two hours a month to more.) Depending on each member’s goals, there’s something for everyone – from organizing and collaborating skills on committee projects to leadership roles, serving as a committee chair or a board position (such as an Events or an Education Director, or a Capital Development Director). Other projects and positions we’re seeking to fill include: member managers, finance experts, forum developers, marketing mavens and event committee positions. As these positions are filled, we’ll announce new openings in areas such as technology and other roles.”

Marcia Macomber, Marketing Director, went on to explain the organization’s recruitment strategy: “Our website’s volunteer page provides a list and descriptions of different volunteer projects. With one click, members can apply for multiple projects. We divvied up projects into smaller, do-able tasks so that when many volunteers accept the workload, it won’t seem like a job but more of a fun activity to do with friends.”

Ms. Macomber continued to map out the overall strategy: “Our objective is to make membership much more valuable to our members by offering greater participation opportunities. These activities will strengthen relationships and contribute to achieving the organization’s goals. By giving these volunteer members more opportunities to lead and participate in running our organization and events, they’ll be ready and excited to take the reins down the road.”
