PASO ROBLES, CA, May 7, 2018– Bloom Time Updates – Don’t miss session three of the 2018 eight-part Practical Wine Grape Growing Series. It features many important updates on groundwater, pesticide use and safety, SIP certification methods and petiole sampling procedures and applications. It will be held May 16, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines located at 6169 Airport Road in Paso Robles, Calif.

Featured topics and speakers include:

Pesticide Use and Safety (1 CEU APPROVED) – Laura Ramage, Inspector-Biologist, San Luis Obispo County Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures. Ramage will give an update on pesticide use and safety regulations, and explain how to decipher label use and safety information and request a “dry run” compliance inspection.

Groundwater Update – Ray Dienzo, Supervising Water Resources Engineer, San Luis Obispo County Public Works Department. Groundwater programs in SLO County continue to evolve and monitoring is one of the key topics at the SLO County Public Works Department. In order to stay in compliance, growers need to keep up-to-date with the issues and programs.  Dienzo will give an update on the evolving groundwater monitoring programs and an overview of how to comply with California regulations. He will also discuss monitoring options and their costs, as well as what information growers will need to provide to the county about specific water level and usage.

SIP (Sustainability in Practice) Certification – Beth Vukmanic Lopez, SIP Certified Manager, Vineyard Team. The SIP certification process is a series of questions and practices that will help you sustainably farm your vineyard. 

Post Bloom Petiole and Blade Analyses – Lowell J. Zelinski, Ph.D., President, Precision Ag Consulting. Petiole sampling during bloom time is an important process to accurately determine the vineyard’s nutrient requirements. Zelinski will discuss accurate sampling methods, where to send them and what to do with the results.

The cost is free for IGGPRA members and $30/pp for non-members.
