Cascadia Wine Competition awarded Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards 2015 Tempranillo its “Best of Class” designation at their annual wine competition. Known for his work with varietals such as Gruner Veltliner and Syrah, Oregon Winemaker Stephen M. Reustle was pleased to take home a “Best of Class” designation for his Tempranillo at this year’s Cascadia Wine Competition. In addition six of  Reustle’s wines earned Gold Medals.

It was a great showing for Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards this year with the 2015 Tempranillo receiving the “Best of Class” designation among all of the other Gold medal Tempranillos. With six other wines (2016 Riesling, 2015 Pinot Noir, 2015 Pinot Noir Reserve, 2016 Pinot Noir reserve, 2016 Syrah, and 2015 Tempranillo Reserve) receiving Gold medals, it was quite a performance for this Umpqua Valley winery.

Stephen Reustle is the owner and winemaker at Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards in Roseburg, Oregon. Competition results from Cascadia and other top wine competitions demonstrate that while he’s known as the top producer of Grüner Veltliner in the country, he possesses significant abilities across a wide spectrum of wines.

When asked to comment on how his wines performed at Cascadia, Mr. Reustle humbly stated, “Great wines are made in the vineyards. I just try to be a good steward of what the Lord gives me and let the fruit shine through with as little intervention as possible.” He further commented, “I make wines that I love to drink, whether it is Pinot Noir, Syrah, Gruner Veltliner, Tempranillo, or one of the others, each wine has its place at my table. It is heartwarming to see how the wine judges appreciate a lower alcohol, higher acidity wine…wines that I believe go well with food and are meant to be enjoyed with friends.”

So far this season, Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards has earned 39 Gold Medal or Higher Awards for their wines in only 6 competitions. Continued success in wine competitions, yielding results like these, are part of the reason WinePress NW chose Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards as their 2017 Northwest Winery of the Year.

Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards, Winepress NW’s 2017 Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year, 2015 Six Nations Wine Challenge Top Syrah producer, 2015 Terroir Award Recipient & Riverside Int’l Wine Competition’s 2010 Small Winery of the Year, is 100% estate grown and produced from 40 acres of steep, hillside vineyards in Southern Oregon’s Umpqua Valley. Family owned and operated since 2001, Reustle – Prayer Rock Vineyards produces approximately 8,000 cases annually.
