Trentodoc, the sparkling wine from northern Italy, is pleased to announce a new U.S. campaign with a focus on generating awareness through press and trade initiatives in 2018

New York, NY, April 3, 2018 – Istituto Trento DOC, the association representing 49 Trentodoc wine producers from the northern Italian region of Trentino, is excited to announce the launch of a new integrated communications program in the United States. With Colangelo & Partners as their agency of record, the campaign will focus on generating awareness and educating press and trade about the high quality and unique characteristics of Trentodoc sparkling wine: in particular, its ties to tradition, mountain environment, and great potential for long aging. The program will kick off events in the early spring and will include press and trade tastings, activities in media and trade relations, event marketing, and social media.

Trentodoc is made in Italy’s northernmost region of Trentino in the Dolomite mountains, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With high-altitude vines, 70% of which lie 3280 feet or more above sea level, the grapes that are used to make Trentodoc—Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Meunier—confer elegance, freshness, and persistence to this unique sparkling wine. The wines are made using the Classic Method (“Metodo Classico”), a production style that winemakers have exclusively followed for 150 years. In fact, Trentodoc was one of the world’s first officially recognized Classic Method wines after Champagne. The wines are aged for a minimum of 15 months for Brut, 36 months for Riserva, and ten years or more on their lees for refined, mature Trentodoc, a method that a growing number of producers are choosing to do.

Trentodoc aims to play an increasingly prominent role in the conversation of high quality sparkling wine in the US, the leading wine-consuming country in the world, and ultimately to establish themselves among top sparkling wine producers. Both imported and sparkling wine categories continue to grow in the US, and consumers now view sparkling wine as more than just a special occasion option, enjoying them as everyday wines in a broader range of social situations. With its strong ties to the terroir of the Dolomites, significant aging capacity, and Classic Method production style, there is great potential for Trentodoc to garner increasing interest and awareness in the US.

“Trentodoc was recognized as Italy’s first Classic Method sparkling wine in 1993, yet awareness for it is still not widespread,” says Enrico Zanoni, President of Istituto Trento DOC. “We aim to change that through educating key players in the wine world as well as consumers about its great aging potential, close ties to high altitude terroir, and consistent high quality.”

Trentodoc promotional activities include a wide variety of offerings in 2018 across major cities in the US, from focused masterclass seminars to comprehensive walkaround tastings for press and trade. All activities will aim to introduce the trade, press, and the final consumer to this little-known gem of northern Italy. The twelve producers taking part in Trentodoc’s promotional activities in the US are: Altemasi,Borgo dei Posseri, Cantina d’Isera, Cantina Rotaliana di Mezzolombardo, Casata Monfort, Ferrari F.lli Lunelli, Letrari, Madonna delle Vittorie, Maso Martis, Moser, Revì, and Rotari Gruppo Mezzacorona.

About Trentodoc: Founded in 1984, the Istituto Trentodoc promotes and safeguards the wines of Trentodoc, a denomination that now represents 49 sparkling wine producers from the Trentino region in northern Italy. Giulio Ferrari first began producing sparkling wine there in 1902 after visiting the Champagne region of France. The Trentodoc denomination was established in 1993 and is the first Italian DOC to produce only Classic Method sparkling wines. In 2007, the collective Trentodoc trademark was created, allowing the sparkling wines of Trentino designated as Trento D.O.C. to use it, thereby relaying the origin, connection with the territory, and excellence of Italy’s unique sparkling wine.
