Women-Led Wineries Open Unexplored Gateway to U.S. Market

SALT LAKE CITY, March 27th, 2018 — When tens of thousands of wine professionals convene in Verona every spring for the largest trade fair in the industry, expectations soar — about new trends, new leads, new business. But the question many are asking this year is how the most prolific winemaking nation, namely Italy, can possibly continue to make headway into the world’s leading, and most complex, export market — the not so “United” States of America.

As the well-documented challenges of navigating the three tier-tier system intensify, small wineries find themselves among those paying most dearly. However, one wine importer hopes to be part of a broader emerging solution — by introducing small-scale vintners from Italy and Spain to the U.S. through one of the most overlooked, and rapidly expanding, regional economies in the country, Utah.

On opening night of Vinitaly, Terrestoria Wine Imports of Salt Lake City will welcome a small group of journalists and members of the trade to a closed-door portfolio tasting, sponsored by the Riedel glassware company, in the heart of old Verona — the first time all six estates featured in the portfolio of women-led wineries are to be showcased together.

The ever-expanding global presence at Veronafiere’s massive exhibition, not to mention the rare opportunity of gathering all the wineries affiliated with Terrestoria in one place, suggest timing is ideal for a formal presentation about an independent startup which, according to its founder Stephanie Cuadra, has potentially far-reaching implications for artisanal producers eager to explore alternative routes to American consumers through secondary and tertiary markets.

”Nine bottles in Verona is a developmental milestone for Terrestoria,” says Cuadra, referring to the private event that will take place on April 15th at Pescetta Man, a concept store in Verona’s historic Santa Anastasia quarter, where Italian menswear and fine antiques seamlessly coexist. “Terrestoria has attracted growing excitement in Utah since we launched imports in early 2017 with our extraordinary Rías Baixas property, followed by the arrival last summer of five exemplary Italian estates from Piedmont to Sicily. Nevertheless, Vinitaly lends itself perfectly to an official debut — as a team — in the presence of specialized media, authoritative wine specialists and our most esteemed colleagues.”

ABOUT TERRESTORIA WINE IMPORTS

Founded in Salt Lake City and operating from satellite offices in Milan, Terrestoria was created to foster discovery among Utah’s burgeoning community of wine enthusiasts. While focusing on lesser-known appellations and indigenous grapes of Italy and Spain, Terrestoria partners with small-scale producers whose voices are rarely heard beyond local borders. Terrestoria champions inclusiveness in the wine industry and is proud to represent the following women-led estates: Adega San Salvador de Soutomaior (D.O. Rías Baixas, Galicia); Cascina Montagnola (Colli Tortonesi DOC, Piedmont); Podere Conca (Bolgheri DOC, Tuscany); Alepa (Terre del Volturno IGT, Campania); Quarta Generazione (Aglianico del Vulture DOCG, Basilicata); Santa Maria La Nave (Etna DOC, Sicily). info@terrestoria.com | www.terrestoria.com
