All 74 Lots Sold, With Full Proceeds to Benefit Napa’s and Sonoma’s Wine Communities

NEW YORK, 1 March 2018 – On January 30, Bid for Better Online: Bordeaux for Napa and Sonoma, Sotheby’s Wine and Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux’s (UGCB) online-only auction, concluded with an impressive total of $92,350 – nearly double the low estimate and with all 74 lots sold. Nearly a dozen bidders vied for the top lot, a superb double magnum of Château Cheval Blanc 2009, which sold for $7,500, while other highlights such as an Imperial of Château d’Yquem 2010 and 6 Magnums of Château Figeac 2009 brought $7,000 and $4,200, respectively. Strong bidding from US-based collectors drove the results across the 15-day sale, and nearly half of all buyers were new to Sotheby’s.

Full proceeds from the online-only sale will benefit the Community Foundation Sonoma County’s and Napa Valley Community Foundation’s vital rebuilding efforts in these celebrated wine regions, following the devastating wildfires in October 2017.

Olivier Bernard, President of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux commented: “It was a privilege for Bordeaux Grand Crus to support our friends in Napa and Sonoma through this special benefit auction. We are pleased to donate all of the proceeds to two such extraordinary foundations, as they continue to help rebuild and nurture these vital communities in the wine industry.”

Jamie Ritchie, Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s Wine added: “It was a pleasure to join forces with UGCB to help support the North Bay wine communities after the devastating wildfires last fall. We’re thankful to all of those who participated in our first online-only wine sale and contributed to the outstanding results for this important cause.”
