Iconic Italian Producer Enters South American Wine Region with new range of Chilean wines

MIAMI, January 26, 2017 – ZONIN1821, the largest private winemaking company in Italy, is embarking on the company’s first South American wine venture with Chile’s Dos Almas (www.dosalmas.us) – a unique wine portfolio that combines Chile’s diverse terroir with two hundred years of Italian winemaking tradition.

A venture with Chile’s Vial family of Viña Ventisquero, Dos Almas will launch nationally in the U.S. market starting January 28, 2018. The wines will retail at $15, and the range includes a Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, a Carmenere from Colchagua, a red blend from Maipo, and a Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Brut sparkling wine from Casablanca. Production for 2018 is 200,000 bottles, with a projected target of 700,000 bottles annually within the first three years.

Similar to how ZONIN1821’s estates are spread among Italy’s many winemaking regions, the grapes for Dos Almas wines are sourced from vineyards which span across the Leyda, Casablanca, Colchagua and Maipo areas. ZONIN1821 Executive Vice President Francesco Zonin notes: “When we visited Chile we quickly realized that we had a rare connection to the Vial family, with so much of their winemaking philosophy aligning with our own and exemplifying a dedication to excellence.”

The launch of the wines will be supported by five events in major markets, the first taking place in Miami on January 30th. The launch events will provide an intimate setting to introduce the wines to key members of trade and media, with elevating food pairings from award-winning chef and Chile native Cristian Rebolledo.

Tim Matz, General Manager and Executive Vice President at Zonin USA notes that future plans for Dos Almas include adding an Apalta-sourced icon wine to the range. The icon wine is intended to elevate the portfolio even further, as Apalta is considered one of Chile’s most exclusive appellations for fine wines. “At Dos Almas, our drive to promote dynamic terroir and the cultural riches of outstanding world wine regions harmoniously merges with centuries-old Italian craftsmanship, and we are excited to introduce the wines and future releases to our consumers,” said Matz.

The remaining launch events will take place in February and March in key markets, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Dallas. Additional details to be announced.
