December 7, 2017—Benicia, CA— Cork Supply USA, Inc., and Tonnellerie Ô, a subsidiary of Cork Supply, are proud to announce their second annual donation to the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology for the purchase of required textbooks for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Enology VEN 124, a wine production class. The company initiated the program in 2016 to provide funding for copies of the highly regarded text, Principles and Practices of Winemaking.

“We’re delighted that Cork Supply and Tonnellerie Ô continue to offer their generous support of our students,” said Dr. David E. Block, professor and chair of the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology.  “Principles and Practices of Winemaking is a key text that students use for multiple courses in our program, but especially wine production. It is the most comprehensive text of its kind in the world, and one that many of our students will keep at their desk for their whole career—not just in school. We thank Cork Supply and Tonnellerie Ô for their continued support of our students and our programs.”

UC Davis professors Roger Boulton, Vernon L. Singleton, Ralph E. Kunkee and Linda Bisson were co-authors of the textbook. The course includes a winemaking lab component http://catalog.ucdavis.edu/programs/VEN/VENcourses.html at the university’s Teaching and Research Winery, the most advanced and sustainable winery in the world: http://wineserver.ucdavis.edu/about/facilities/Winery.html

Students are also grateful for the donation. “My finances are limited, so receiving this textbook as a gift was especially helpful as I look forward to the course,” said Masatoshi Hara, a first-year graduate student at UC Davis.

Third-year undergraduate student Rose Ballantine agrees with Hara. “I’m a new student and I hope to be a winemaker someday—the class and this textbook are vital to my academic success,” said Ballantine.

“We’re delighted to continue our annual donation for the purchase of Principles and Practices of Winemaking. We hope it helps aspiring vintners start off on long, rewarding careers in the industry,” said Greg Hirson, Senior Director of Technical Services. A UC Davis alumnus, Hirson earned an MS degree in Viticulture and Enology.
