Red Wine Meets Bold Winter Spices in New Wine Cooler

NAPA, CA (November 8, 2017) – St. Mayhem continues to re-define the wine cooler. Kat and Rob McDonald, the provocateurs behind St. Mayhem Wine Coolers, announce today a collaboration with boundary-pushing winemaker Andy Erickson called St. Mayhem Hückfest, which combines red wine with bold winter spices for a winter-in-a-can craft cooler. The limited release product will be available in 250ml two-pack cans retailing for $12 in markets nationwide beginning December 1.

St. Mayhem Hückfest (13.1% abv) is a blend of 49% Syrah, 35% Mourvedre, and 16% Grenache from Amador County. The wine was spiced with cloves, cinnamon, orange peel, almond extract, ginger, nutmeg, and blueberries.

The collaboration: What’s in a name?

“Our kids grew up with Andy’s kids racing on ski teams and we were always on the side of the course, freezing. This evolved out of a flask creation we shared standing on the side of a hill,” recalls Rob McDonald. “Hückfest is ski slang for giving it your all, a celebration of going for it in a big way. We started with excellent wine and handpicked the best ingredients and didn’t stop till it was perfect.”

Erickson, who is recognized as one of the premier winemakers of his generation, has built cult followings for wines he has created, including 100-point bottlings.

“Rob and I worked for days on our recipe until we got it just right. The Swedish side of my family always made glogg – mulled red wine – in the winter,” says Erickson. “The aroma would fill the house pretty much every day. Rob and I tweaked the different spices until the moment hit. And when it did, I was transported right back to my childhood, the smell of the wine, the berries, all those spices.  And it tastes great. Definitely something I will throw in my backpack when I head out backcountry skiing. I think we nailed it!”
