Acclaimed Winemaker Chris Upchurch to Release A New Wine from his Red Mountain Estate Winery

Benton City, WA, August 10, 2017 — Chris and Thea Upchurch, recognized for their Upchurch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, have announced the upcoming release of 2015 Counterpart, a Merlot dominant blend crafted from their 18-acre estate on Washington’s Red Mountain. The latest addition to the Upchurch portfolio will be available in November 2017.

While the Upchurch Cabernet has garnered much praise, Chris has continued to “dabble in his workshop”, evolving the winery’s portfolio and continuing to take advantage of the unique terroir he calls home. “With the evolution of Upchurch Vineyard, we discovered that all of the design work and clonal selection for Cabernet worked beautifully for our Merlot and has produced some of the best Merlot we’ve seen in a long time,” remarked Chris. “Counterpart is specifically designed to showcase this discovery.”

Upchurch’s vineyard manager Dick Boushey added with a smile, “The Merlot does so well each year. It is resilient, despite all of the climate change and our manipulation; it performs well, in spite of both us and Mother Nature.”

2015 Counterpart will be available this November through the winery, to wine club members, and at select accounts nationwide. Currently, preorders are being taken at www.upchurchvineyard.com.

In recognition of Thea’s Dutch heritage, the Counterpart label is an interpretation of Amsterdam’s architecture viewed from its canals. The black and white geometric image was designed by Plume 21.

Chris concluded, “Upchurch Vineyard is an ongoing family project dedicated to developing and exploring this small plot on the southwest corner of Red Mountain. Our 2015 Counterpart showcases how our small vine, sustainably farmed philosophy as well as low impact winemaking can produce as impressive Merlot as it already has with our Cabernets.”
