The Kentucky Guild of Brewer’s inaugural Kentucky Craft Bash taking place on Saturday 24 June, has teamed up with Petainer to help the event go ‘green’. Petainer, the market leader in innovative PET packaging, is supplying the breweries taking part in the Bash with its fully recyclable PET petainerKeg™ for free.
The event, sponsored by HopCat the ‘anti-chain’ chain, is taking place at Louisville Waterfront Park’s Festival Plaza, and will feature over 30 breweries from Kentucky. Over 2,000 visitors are expected to come along and sample more than 70 varieties of beer, including some experimental beers and those rarely found outside a brewery’s taproom or brewpub.
When all the beer has been drunk, the beer kegs will be recycled, cutting out energy-consuming return logistics and washing, thereby reducing carbon emissions and saving valuable water – a one-way PET keg uses 12L less water than a traditional steel keg.
Commenting on the partnership, Derek Selznick, Executive Director of the Kentucky Brewer’s Guild said: “It is great news that Petainer is supporting our event. We want it to be a great experience for beer-lovers but not at the expense of the environment. Petainer’s kegs will help us host the first ever eco-friendly brewing festival in Kentucky.”
Marc Kibbey, Executive Vice-President, North America, Petainer, said: “Petainer has a strong focus on sustainability and delivering economic benefits for its customers. It is great to see this being put into practice at an event of this scale where petainerKeg™ will be used by the breweries taking part.”

About Kentucky Guild of Brewers
The Kentucky Guild of Brewers (KGB) exists to pursue the following objectives: to act as a singular voice and advocate for the Kentucky brewing industry in all pertinent matters of legislation and governmental administration; to evenly promote all member breweries through the organization of events and publication of media; and to amalgamate the knowledge and economic sway of member breweries. The Guild is organized and operated exclusively for non-profit purposes.
HopCat was envisioned, designed, stocked, and staffed with one mission in mind: To bring you great beer. What is great beer? It’s a beer made with care and pride. It might be a local beer or one from across the globe. It could be your usual pint, or a beer that you had no idea existed. Every once in a while, it’s a beer you never would have ordered but for the fact that your server or bartender suggested it.
Petainer is a global leader in high performance and sustainable packaging. It is a specialist engineering and disruptive technology business, an industry-leader in the development, design and manufacture of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) food and beverage containers.
Petainer creates plastic packaging, often using highly engineered PET, which is stretched to reduce the weight of the packaging but without compromising strength and performance. This offers global brands advantages in terms of both cost and sustainability. See www.petainer.com.
Petainer is a UK-based company which has production plants in Sweden and the Czech Republic, blowing facilities in North America, Russia, India and Australia, as well as sales offices in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, the USA, Canada and UK.
