Banshee Wines & Valkyrie Selections Honored as Whole Foods Market Supplier of the Year

Outstanding Wine & Beer 2016

HEALDBURG, California: Banshee Wines and Valkyrie Selections has been awarded the “Outstanding Wine & Beer Supplier” for 2016 at the Whole Foods Market annual Supplier Awards held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Austin, Texas last week.  This is the single highest award given by the luxury grocer for producer partners that embody its mission and values.  The award was given for Banshee and Valkyrie’s “commitment to working relationships with small sustainable family vineyard and winery owners both abroad and in the US in their pursuit of making world-class wines that deliver in both quality and value.”

Valkyrie Selections and Whole Foods Market collaborate on two European brands, El Terrano and Calixo Cava.  Each of the brands are hand selected by the WFM Global Wine Buyers, Doug Bell and Devon Broglie M.S., in conjunction with Baron Ziegler, CEO of Banshee Wines and Valkyrie Selections.  The goal of the project is to work with sustainably / organically farmed indigenous varieties from benchmark regions and to deliver classic wines true to their native origins.

“This collaboration is a way to connect the family wineries we represent with Doug & Devon, who in turn connect them with a wider audience,” comments Baron. “It is a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talent and quality coming from Spain, delivering remarkable value.”  There are currently six wines in the El Terrano family – Tempranillo, Garnacha, Monastrell, Garnacha Rosado, Albarino and Verdejo – and Calixo Cava sparkling wine, all available exclusively at Whole Foods Markets nationwide, all priced under $15.

Valkyrie Selections: Valkyrie Selections was founded in 2011 with sights set on selling enough wine from exceptional producers to support personal consumption habits.  Today, Valkyrie represents over 30 growers, spanning benchmark appellations to the hidden corners of Spain and France.  Wines are selected based on a few simple premises; wines we love, producers we trust, and irresistible values.
